but to me Family Feud on TV Land just sounds silly because GSN already shows the same reruns. Kelsey You actually said something "objective". Before it was always you always loving every new change, or host, etc. I'm just saying, not to be mean. 1. Yes, GSN airs this show a lot already. Does TV Land really care? I doubt it. They don't acquire these shows because of another network thaf specializes in game shows. TV Land is a classic/comedy network. Family Feud is more of a sex comedy show nowadays. Networks add shows for more variety, and to try to see if they work. ION TV used to air John O'Hurleys Feud when he hosted. 2. Some people don't watch GSN. I don't much. I record what I want to watch on GSN excluding Harvey Feud, so I don't care. 3. It's not uncommon for a non game show network to air s game show. I'd kill for TV Land to air classic game shows in a block. But I'm not even complaining. If I had a dozen theories, I'd go insane. I know I posted this after the fact, probably. I think the difference is that O'Hurley's Feud in general wasn't run so frequently and obnoxiously like Harvey's is now. Hence some people's frustration. Like for me, I'm not against his version existing though I do have my criticisms. But honestly three cable networks is becoming too much. Also I can't believe this is about variety. This is about money. Even if some people don't like it for our own reasons, Steve Harvey's version is huge right now and brings in ratings. And he's got this show, he's got a talk show that also does well. If it was about variety to me then they'd be picking up something else and leaving the Feud to first-run syndication and GSN. Or only one of those other networks would be getting it. Or GSN would be removing Harvey Feud or cutting it down significantly and replacing it with something else while another network acquires it, which I seriously doubt at this point, because it's bringing them $$$.
Not to mention, when Pax/I/ION aired any version of Family Feud, either Anderson, Karn, or O'Hurley, on average for most of that time you got about 2 episodes a day and that was it. Also GSN doesn't show O'Hurley's Feud as much as they do Harvey's Feud. TVLand and BET (and the rest of Viacom owned stations) on the other hand constantly put the majority of their programs on in marathon blocks that air several hours long on certain days. Don't see how this show is going to be any different.

God I hope they don't put Feud in s block on TV Land. What's worse though is they stagger the tjmes. Example. 5:18 - 5:48. That's whats worse about a show like Feud is if they so that too.
I don't watch "live" GSN like I used to, so again, it doesn't matter much to me. However, I watch TV Land sometimes. But that I also don't watch like I used to, but I still watch it.

It's just kind of weird. I wanted to bring that up while I'm on this topic, which is off topic. I don't mean to hurt anyones feelings, I'm saying what I think. We can discuss anything further in Private Message if needed. Sent from my GT-P5113 using proboards

"Yes, GSN airs this show [Harvey Feud] a lot already. Does TV Land really care? I doubt it. They don't acquire these shows because of another network that specializes in game shows."
I'm not a TV Land exec, which is good for them, but please. Far from ignoring our little game show network, TV Land and BET execs had to notice the numbers that Harvey's reruns got on GSN. If the show's repeats had bombed on GSN, the networks would have found something else to buy.
Sure, Harvey Feud gets trashed by a handful of Internet posters. Which means exactly zilch to cable execs. They look at those long columns of figures from the Nielsen Company. And they saw how Harvey's reruns dominated GSN's top twenty for months at a time. They wanted a little of that action themselves.
Haven't seen any details of the acquisition. But I assume TV Land and BET got third and fourth season Harvey Feud. They must have outbid GSN for the rights. Well, at least GSN doesn't have to worry about getting outbid on 25K Pyramid (wink).

Oh I'm very sorry my dear Phimat37 and I won't ever do it again. ... You don't have to have a positive opinion about all game shows. Disliking something is fine.

At the risk of going off-topic...
It is neither possible nor desirable to like everything. That sort of approach is just as wrong-minded as the (far more prevalent) attitude that suggests one has to be cynical about everything. To use myself as an example, I like to think of myself as one of the most optimistic, glass-half-full types when it comes to game shows in general, to the point where I've been accused many times in the past of being an "apologist" for some of the more controversial shows, figures, and decisions in the history of our little genre. Indeed, I will confess that I still get annoyed whenever I see the derisive nickname "DismantleMedia" (or similar insults based on whatever their name happened to be at the time) used to describe the successors-in-interest to the Mark Goodson empire, and often wonder just how long that company must continue to be judged solely by the (perceived) horrors of Match Game '98 and Card Sharks '01 -- it's been over fifteen years since 1998, and anyway those versions were produced so long ago that Fremantle was almost literally a different company than they are today. Relevant to the topic of this thread, the modern Feud has itself come a long way from the days of Louie Anderson and the "1-1-1-3" round structure, the most universally-derided elements of the original reboot. Even Temptation is long enough in the past now that we should be able to simply move on from it. It is safe to suggest that Fremantle has learned from their mistakes... but still, some people just won't let it go. If this same logic of only judging a production house by its worst output applied a couple of generations ago, Barry & Enright would only be remembered today for garbage like Way Out Games and Celebrity Bullseye, and even Goodson's own name would be cursed for inflicting Mindreaders on us.
However, even I have things I don't like, and am not shy about it. I'm on record as saying The Pop 'n Rocker Game is very possibly the worst game show ever unleashed on an unsuspecting public; if you've never seen it consider yourself lucky, and if you have you know of what I speak. (And yes, I do believe that even Card Sharks '01 is a better show than this swill... but not by much.) When I reviewed game shows for the old GSN boards, I coined a phrase -- the "Bauman Line" -- in a similar vein to baseball's Mendoza Line, a standard of mediocrity under which no self-respecting host should find him- or herself -- in dishonor of Pop 'n Rocker's host, which tells you everything you need to know. I agreed with Peter Tomarken in considering Bargain Hunters a "piece of [bleep]" best left forgotten, except to serve as an example of what not to do when trying to clone The Price is Right. The same could be said of Time Machine, though at least that show used a novel temporal, rather than economic, approach. And don't even get me started about The Diamond Head Game, Fox's Big Deal (indeed, the lion's share of the Stone-Stanley Productions legacy), or -- horror of horrors! -- Patrick Freaking Wayne.
You don't have to love everything, but you also don't have to hate everything either. You just have to accept, as I do, that some things are better than others and that not everything is going to work out as you hope it will. And that's perfectly all right. There's good and bad everywhere you look, and if you weigh both sides against each other and find the good is still greater than the bad, that's really all you can ask of anything in this world.

I haven't read the posts after the comment concerning the TV Land and BET announcement, so I'll probably look/sound ignorant when I say this. I really don't understand why there would be reruns of the same show on three different networks. That makes no sense to me. Just, why? It all looks silly on paper.

I agree, it's too much of a good thing. I suppose someone could argue that successful syndicated rerun packages of the past -- I'm thinking mainly of I Love Lucy, The Twilight Zone, Star Trek, and M*A*S*H, but there are certainly other examples -- were often seen on multiple stations in the same market (or overlapping ones) back in the day, and that this mitosis of Harvey Feud is theoretically no different than any of those situations. Except, of course, it is different. Scripted TV shows, it has been conclusively proven, have a much longer shelf life than old game shows, as much as we may not want to admit it. Giving Feud or any game show this much exposure will burn it out in quick order; think of the "rerun abuse" charge often thrown at GSN, then multiply it by three, and that's the situation we'll have here. Under the circumstances (and I say this with some caution, knowing how badly it could be misinterpreted), I can sort of understand BET wanting this incarnation of the show. TV Land, however, has me totally scratching my head. Even accepting that TV Land isn't the channel it used to be, I'd think if they were to go after any game show at all, it would be one of far less recent vintage -- perhaps the Ray Combs or even Louie Anderson versions of Feud.

I chalk it up to Viacom wanting to cash in on Steve Harvey's popularity and ratings. I totally get what you're saying. Not to mention BET's aired past things of Steve's, including The Steve Harvey Show. He's a popular black comedian, they've been successful with him before, makes sense that they'd want to showcase more of his work. Nothing more, nothing less. I'd say if it wasn't for it being aired so many times daily already I wouldn't really complain much about this. Don't see Viacom holding back with their airing of this show.

I was wrong about GSN getting outbid, at least for third season Harvey Feud. That season will start running on GSN the week of September 29 (check the schedule on Game Show Follies). We'll have to wait and see which seasons run on TV Land, BET and Centric.

As you know BET was also gonna show Family Feud along with TV Land with Family Feud starting on TV Land today and starting tomorrow Family Feud makes it's debut on BET starting with episodes airing at 6AM-6:30AM and again at 8PM-8:30PM shockingly after an episode of The Steve Harvey Show. Centric is also gonna show the exact same episodes of Family Feud at 2PM-2:30PM also after episodes of The Steve Harvey Show. Smart move of BET to do in my opinion, Kelsey
