Okay, I want to know two things as the start of today's episode airs.
1. When did the whole "big bucks, no whammies" mantra comes into play? 2. Were you required to say that while the board was in motion? If no, did anyone not say it?

I do not believe anyone was required to say "big bucks, no whammies".

In Press Your Luck when the Big Board is in motion you could say anything funny or cute in addition to "Big Bucks No Whammies" and say go instead of Stop. I don't recall any rules on what players could say on Press Your Luck but this should be helpful in answering your question, Glad to be of service Mario500, Kelsey

Bumping this thread to ask another question...
Today's PYL episode had the board read "Merry X-Mas" during the question round. Was Christmas the only time the board had something other than the cash and whatnot?

I believe the "Big Bucks, No Whammies" chant from the contestants started at Randy West's first appearance, most likely September 29, 1983. If I recall, Randy West was probably the first player to utter such chant. People were more prone to not utter such chant when Board SFX #1 was prevalent. Not sure if such board SFX was mesmerizing or something, but after Board SFX #2 debuted in early November 1983, there seemed to be more and more people uttering such chant as the series progressed.

Bumping this thread to ask another question... Today's PYL episode had the board read "Merry X-Mas" during the question round. Was Christmas the only time the board had something other than the cash and whatnot? If I recall, the "MERRY XMAS" slides appeared as Rod Roddy started his opening spiel, but then the cash, prize, whammy, and directional slides were loaded up, if I recall. This trend was only prevalent during the 1983 holiday season, but if I remember seeing on the internet one time (December 24, 1984 episode), the "MERRY XMAS" slides remained in tact during the entire opening even after Peter started to make his way to his podium. Slightly off-topic, but the color of the MERRY XMAS slides appeared to be different when Christmas 1985 came around. The background colors appeared to be a darker shade of neon red and green.
The Christmas Day 1985 episode of PYL is on YouTube.

The Christmas 1985 episode of Press Your Luck also starred Peter Tomarken's young daughters in the intro in which they tell Peter to wake up and go to work on Christmas while Peter Tomarken's fast asleep in his chair while O Christmas Tree plays in the background and is really cute, Kelsey

I would like to ask a question about prizes being hit for the first time, and even though GSN hasn't aired any 1986 episodes yet, I would like to ask, are there videos on YT with the Tahitian Cruise and Man's Watch being hit?
I was also surprised to learn that the trip to Nashville debuted in November 1985 - it was hit on the date beyond what GSN had the rights to air until 2009 (GSN only aired 2/21/1984 to 11/15/1985 from 2003 to 2008, and Nashville was hit on 11/22/1985 - the same episode with the all-cash bonus board for the finale of the Home Player Sweepstakes).

I was watching the Press Your Luck rerun on GSN today and I noticed a very familiar contestant.
I believe one of the challengers (John) was on Match Game in 1991.
Can anyone confirm this?

When I was listening to music I found a song called Whammy by the new wave/rock band The B-52's and when I listened to it I noticed that it samples the theme song of Press Your Luck and it makes me think that CBS asked permission of The B-52's to sample the theme song of Press Your Luck. Was the theme song of Press Your Luck sampled in The B-52's song Whammy?, Kelsey

No. The B-52's song was released before PYL emerged from the ashes of SECOND CHANCE.
And the song is called "Whammy Kiss"

Who provided the voice of the Whammies on Press Your Luck? I do know that they were designed by Savage Steve Holland but I'm curious to know the actors that play the voices of Whammy/Tammy Whamette, Kelsey
