In honor of David Letterman's last show tonight, here's a look back to the finale of Dave's ill-fated daytime show from 1980, and a musical tribute—with typical Letterman dry wit—to one of the series that would be taking its place the following Monday, Las Vegas Gambit.

...Wow. First link is Day 1 of NBC's All-Star Dream Machine Championship (believed to be 1/19/76), second link is 5/20/76. And below...is 3/15/78, the third episode that recently got into traders' hands: www.dailymotion.com/video/x2wnk07_wof-1978-beth-carol-mary-ann_tvIt is amazing how things have changed. Over 15 years ago, only two episodes with [Woolery] as the host were on the trading circuit. Now, that number has increased to god knows how many. About 20 I'm aware of, not counting a dozen or so clips from other episodes. Counting everything I know to have been on YouTube, the two 1975 episodes held on audiotape by Archival Television Audio, the only Woolery episode Paley Center has that isn't among traders (1/18/78), and the three pilots...about 40 episodes from the period prior to Sajak's first episode are known to exist in whole or in part. Granted, that's out of something like 1,800 shows, but still...

You be the judge.

Yeah those three episodes of Woolery's Wheel of Fortune kind of surprisingly quietly turned up recently in some public trader hands. Nice that someone uploaded them to the internet!!

Granted, as far as I know these Wheel and To Say the Least episodes were in private collector hands as well. Who knows? I'm holding out for more Celebrity Sweepstakes myself.

I probably should be a bit more specific: I know at least one public trader has a 1975 High Rollers, but it's not officially listed in their collection. here's a look back to the finale of Dave's ill-fated daytime show from 1980, and a musical tribute—with typical Letterman dry wit—to one of the series that would be taking its place the following Monday, Las Vegas Gambit. And here's the first episode of Las Vegas Gambit, proving the whole "Living Deck" thing was exclusive to its pilot:
