I figured this would be a fun idea. A thread dedicated to discussing when episodes of shows are discovered, IE. "so an episode of Chuck Woolery's Wheel of Fortune was found today from 197x" or something along those lines. Links to evidence to support your claim are, of course, always welcome if possible. This could also be a good thread for discussing the status of certain daytime shows. IE. did you know all of the Bob Eubanks' run of Dream House was lost in a flood back in the 1990s or so? I am making this thread because of a super rad announcement that I just read on Facebook. So Stu Shostak, who has been uploading random Dennis James episodes of The Price is Right, recently announced that he has the first three seasons of the Dennis James version, as recorded by Dennis himself!! They are in an "outdated format" so he hopes to do what he can to get them digitally converted. However, the biggest news IMO is that Stu has also discovered an episode of Dennis' ultra-rare daytime version of Name That Tune!! Stu said he plans to upload it shortly; I simply cannot wait for that!! Source: Stu's Show Facebook page. Stu has been helping Dennis' son, Brad, convert all of Dennis' old game shows he recorded himself!! According to Brad, Dennis hated doing Name That Tune--mostly because they wanted Dennis to sing, and he didn't want to sing at all. Also, all of Dennis' version of NTT apparently exists, which I can certainly see being the case.

It's so great to see more Dennis James Price is Right has been found!
A little thing happened with me a good while ago. Several years back, a woman named Janet Stephens contacted me. She appeared on syndicated Wheel of Fortune in 1983 and her episode was accidentally recorded over so she needed a new copy. She offered to trade with me and gave a small list of items and one of those items happened to be an episode of Chuck Woolery's version where she also played as a contestant in October 1980.
As soon as I saw that as an item, I knew I had to get it because of the obvious rarity. I had never seen or known of said episode before. It's been since introduced to the trading circuit by me after getting it from her and is more than likely been on YouTube by now.

For Wheel of Fortune, everything of the daytime show I know to exist (and circulate, after 1985) is listed here. Jack, the October 1980 show has been online, as I've seen it.

Actually, the flood that washed away DREAM HOUSE occurred in 2013. Terry of the Television Production Music Museum said that the GSN inquiry (where they had learned the shows were lost in a flood) was years before then ("[...] it has been a while, not recently."). His official confirmation came from 2013, that does not mean that's when the actual flood occurred. Also, some tapes did survive (mostly thanks to Don Reid's personal collection) but not all. Don's daughter on Facebook mentioned they they tried shopping the reruns to HGTV years ago but they were not interested. Very interesting!!

so I'm sure the recent Wheel of Fortune discoveries have excited some. Very glad to see more Woolery Wheel surface out there, and especially such early episodes!! Of not, the only year that's currently not publicly represented with a full episode is 1977.

Mitt Dawson (who is now deceased), who worked on NBC's $ale of the Century in the 80s, did post a comment on one of his uploads, claiming that virtually all of the NBC run, except for the final six months or so, were destroyed or wiped. I am not sure if it was a policy of Reg Grundy Productions, or if it was due to the same flood that destroyed the tapes of Dream House. Though Terry from TVPMM did confirm on Facebook that the pre-1985 NBC era of Wheel of Fortune was destroyed (or erased) as per Merv Griffin's policy.

The flood happened in the home of Don Reid, Dream House producer. Not at NBC, or at Reg Grundy's (now Fremantlemedia) videotape vaults. There was a Variety Magazine ad, not sure exactly where, that stated that USA Network would be acquiring 390 episodes of Sale of the Century; all 270 1985-1986 Syndicated episodes, and 120 August 1988-March 1989 Daytime episodes. Not all of the daytime episodes, including the final two or three episodes were shown. I kick myself for not being able to ask Mitt Dawson "Why did your company destroy every daytime episode of Sale of the Century up until August 1988, but not every episode of Scrabble?", while he was still alive. I really do.

The flood happened in the home of Don Reid, Dream House producer. Which in turn means that all three of the show's runs (ABC primetime, ABC daytime, NBC) are gone. Though Terry from TVPMM did confirm on Facebook that the pre-1985 NBC era of Wheel of Fortune was destroyed (or erased) as per Merv Griffin's policy. Could you link to that post, please? The only source I've ever seen was some recollection that a King World representative said this in August 2006; I wouldn't mind a source like TVPMM, who I'd trust a bit more. This confirmation, though...while it's nice to get confirmation one way or the other, I'm kinda sad it's the "yeah, the first ten years are gone" one. And even then, Fred Wostbrock's said the 1978-79 Jeopardy! is intact, so why would daytime Wheel be affected but not that? ...I'm not liking the implications my brain's cooking up...

And even then, Fred Wostbrock's said the 1978-79 Jeopardy! is intact Yoooooooo that is awesome. Any word on if the first nighttime run is intact?

I originally mentioned that as well, but yes. Per Fred Wostbrock, the 1974-75 syndicated version is also intact, although in fairness syndicated shows tended to have a better chance of survival than network and local ones.

Yeah, but then you have the random case of stuff being flat out gone, like the first seasons of syndicated Beat the Clock, and, sadly for me, Garry Moore's To Tell the Truth. Confirmation is always nice to hear.

One episode from the first season of Moore's TTTT exists at UCLA. But that's about it.

One episode from the first season of Moore's TTTT exists at UCLA. But that's about it. It's in black and white IIRC, but it's a neat one. It's from the first week of the series, and features a subject who works with making personality tests where you can find your future mate. Peggy Cass does the test and gets some rather amusing results apparently!!

A bit strange that it looks like a good deal (if not all of it, one reason why I'd really like to see this and the other late '60's G-T revivals regularly) of syndie WML from the first year exists but not the first years of BtC and TTTT. I don't mean to speculate but I wonder what could have happened with that.
