I came into post the same thing.
I hope they are ending it, I mean the newer originals are no longer crunched.
or maybe this is me getting my hopes up.

This is strange. First the audio problems, now this. At least this doesn't hinder the viewing experience. Very weird though.

Just saw the end of SotC and it looks like we have a new end split screen where both images are the same size. That's interesting to say the least. Not sure if it's a permanent thing though.

When I watched Deal Or No Deal today I didn't have the technical problems that GSN had and it's been wonderful for three days. I wonder if it was just a glitch they had that day. And yes SSweep Fan3 I have noticed that the splitscreen has changed on GSN when I watched Catch-21 and it's pretty neat because now you can watch shows end credits without worrying about previews preempting the end of the shows and I think it's great, Kelsey

Today while watching Deal Or No Deal I noticed that the show is now in widescreen format and I wonder if GSN is gonna make all it's shows be presented in a widescreen format. When I watched Catch-21 today it was normal but Deal Or No Deal was the first show I noticed this widescreen format today. I hope GSN does this with The Chase because it will be like watching a movie, Is this widescreen format gonna be how GSN is broadcasting it's game shows from now on?, Kelsey

Well, to be honest, virtually all shows post-2004 or so are either already widescreen or can be stretched to widescreen format; whereas virtually anything pre-2004 cannot be stretched. This depends on the media it comes from. Shows such as Match Game, $ale of the Century, and even Whammy! are likely aired from media that may be DigiBeta tapes, and when GSN airs them, they just put in the tape, and let it play. Whereas TV shows from sometime in the 2000's onward are recorded in digital format and can be stretched to widescreen format. Computers and technology can allow for the digital versions of certain shows to be made widescreen format, whereas the shows that are taken from a DigiBeta tape cannot be stretched.
That said, I think it will be possible that there will be no pre-2000's programming on GSN in a few years time. I bet that, when the DigiBeta machine starts to die, and the technology is obsolete, it will be then that we will likely be kissing the pre-2000 shows goodbye and say hello to a new era for GSN, and me saying goodbye to GSN for good.

The last time I had GSN HD (which was in 2012), the only non-HD shows that were actually stretched were the more modern shows like DoND, the first season of Harvey Feud, and O'Hurley Feud. The classic shows weren't stretched or squeezed to fit a 16:9 screen. If YouTube uploads on a couple channels say anything, I don't think that's changed. Promos for other shows like $ale have had squeezed video but not the actual episodes when they're actually airing in full.
I don't see why having an HD channel means classics as a whole have to leave. Formats for broadcasting shows change as technology advances. After all, most of these classic shows that GSN run today were originally recorded on 2" videotapes and the b/w shows preserved on kinescopes and nobody uses those to air shows anymore. All that needs to be done as technology advances is convert media to a different format that's acceptable for modern broadcasting.
It shouldn't be that much of a hassle especially when one considers that GSN only leases between 55-100 episodes of shows during any given run on their network in this day and age. As long as decent ratings allow it, I don't see classics as a whole going anywhere.
As for GSN's version of The Chase, it is shot in the HD widescreen format and is cropped to 4:3 for GSN SD. GSN uploads clips and occasionally full episodes on their YouTube channel and they're all in widescreen.

This morning I had technical problems with GSN again and they only happened once. During Apolo Ohno's Minute To Win It episode the screen went black for a few seconds and then returned to normal and for the rest of the day GSN was fine with no trouble and no black screen. I wonder if they were fixing glitches early in the morning today but I thank my lucky stars this glitch on Minute To Win It was not caused by a commercial on GSN, Kelsey

I cannot believe what a wonderful channel GSN has grown into and I can say that it is great and with great new shows coming this summer and the return of GSN favorites such as The American Bible Challenge and The Chase coming in July and the addition of classic reruns of game shows such as Shop Til You Drop and Blockbusters I think that 2014 is GSN's miracle year and it has impressed me so much that I think that this miracle year has improved GSN a whole lot more and with the new shows I think GSN is gaining a new audience and the addition of the new GSN lineup has proved it, Do you agree that 2014 is truly GSN's new and improved miracle year?, Kelsey

I personally agree with you because I think it's due to the success of The American Bible Challenge and The Chase that GSN has really shown that they have the "Midas Touch" when it has come to creating shows that are monster hits and they have shown smart ideas when it comes to airing shows on weekdays. Take for instance I think GSN did a very smart idea by airing The American Bible Challenge and It Takes A Church together so Thursday Nights can be known as the Jeff Foxworthy/Natalie Grant Hour and I think this has helped GSN grow to be the number one game show channel on cable TV. Another thing that GSN has done that has made 2014 their miracle year is by adding fresh new talent to host new game shows for the network. Take for example we saw Apolo Ohno make his GSN debut in the Minute To Win It revival and actor DeRay Davis made his debut on GSN with Mind Of A Man and this I think has added more viewers to GSN by adding fresh new talent to the game show world. GSN also has shown a lot of success this year by adding reruns of classic game shows never before seen on GSN such as Blockbusters to shows like Shop Til You Drop and I think ever since Shop Til You Drop was added to the lineup GSN has gained a whole new world of fans and it is now wonderful. I think as 2014 goes on we will see more exciting shows being added to GSN's lineup and if GSN keeps adding wonderful shows to it's lineup 2014 truly will become GSN's miracle year indeed with many more exciting changes to come next year and beyond. Now if only GSN could add Duel Show Me The Money Supermarket Sweep Greed to their lineup soon in the near future because if GSN could add those shows to the channel I would be one happy camper indeed, Thank you very much for your great commentary Gameshowmaniac it was so cool to hear from you, Kelsey

Ratings wise? Not the best. Not as good as 2012/2013. GSN did have its best month in January. I did have an argument with Casey over at his blog, which did nothing but grow his enormous ego, in a way. The argument had to do with Millionaire and GSN and Harvey Feud came into play.
As far as shows go for GSN though, GSN is going to find a way to screw up this year for us, and for them. I saw a promo for Skin Wars a few days ago. Looked godawful, I hope I don't come across that show when it comes on.
Hmm... I forget what other reality projects GSN has in mind, but if they come out this year, EEK. GSN will still never learn that reality doesn't work on a game show network. That's been proven for years.
Come to think, it's probably been 10 years now since GSN started reality shows. I think. Either 2004 when Game Show Network became GSN or 2005.

I personally agree with you because I think it's due to the success of The American Bible Challenge and The Chase that GSN has really shown that they have the "Midas Touch" I'm late to the party, but I don't think you understood just what was said. For every good show gsn has had this year, they've had at least 2 bombs I think the following are "hits": - The Chase - The American Bible Challenge What are probably going to be flops? - It Takes a Church (that's not even a game show) - Mind of a Man (everyone around here thinks it sucks) I think the overkill of Family Feud is what pushes this to be one of GSN's "meh" years. If they could cut down on the airings by about an hour a day or so and put some better acquisitions on, maybe it's marginal success. As for this statement? I think this has helped GSN grow to be the number one game show channel on cable TV. I want to know what other channels are out there that have the sole purpose of game shows.

I think the overkill of Family Feud is what pushes this to be one of GSN's "meh" years. If they could cut down on the airings by about an hour a day or so and put some better acquisitions on, maybe it's marginal success. Well, Casey (Abell) disagrees I think. Sorry to bring him back into the topic. If GSN just aired an hour a day to begin with, it could be one of those shows people just want to see again and again on GSN and it makes people want more so they tune in each night for it. It's that simple. Since it's been airing every Wednesday since it first came to the network, people are plain tired of it, or getting there. I knew it was a matter of time. If Harvey Feud starts bombing eventually, into the 300k's, 400k's (well, those numbers are inexcusable these days since GSN has become available in more households) and that's a big fat IF. What will GSN use as their hit acquisition show? This is how a network get run down the toilet. There is such a thing as Overkill. Well, I don't care how GSN runs the network as long as Match Game stays, and some of my other favorites stay. Most of my GSN watching is recorded nowadays.

If anyone's a fan of pre-2000 material, 2014 is not GSN's miracle year. Unless those viewers like The $25,000 Pyramid more than anything else.
