I didn't see anyone make a thread about it yet since it aired last night so I figured I would, since I had some thoughts as well.
I didn't care too much for the host Mike Catherwood. When he first came on my TV, he seemed like a nerd. And not the Ben Gleib type of a nerd, Ben's funny. This guy tries to be funny, but he really isn't in my opinion. Dylan Lane was funny sometimes, but he was pretty plain. Of course, I understand they probably wanted someone new to host I figured, probably for the same reason Bill Engvall hosted the 2011 version of Lingo. I don't know the reason, but Chuck didn't host that, I figured there was no chance Dylan would come back.
The set is nice and bright than some of these game shows like The Chase and Idiotest that are too dark (and I love those shows), not to mention shows like Deal or No Deal as well. It's nice to see a game show look brighter and not so dark.
The gameplay hasn't changed much. I like the Super Chain for $5,000 at the end of the game. It gives the viewer more of an opportunity to play along with the game at the end, unlike the 2006/2007 version.

One thing I noticed about this new version of Chain Reaction is that the theme song is different and has a kind of disco like beat. At least they didn't use the version with lyrics that the Dylan Lane version of Chain Reaction had. But other than that GSN has scored a winner and a home run and by putting Chain Reaction directly after The Chase was a really smart idea and with an hour like this I think GSN will name the hour The Mark and Mike Hour in honor of Mark Labbett and Michael Catherwood's popular shows, Kelsey

I liked the theme song from Dylan Lane's version. I'm not a fan of this disco music, and also they didn't have music DURING gameplay on Dylan Lane's version, on here they do. I'm not a fan of that, really.
Ratings decide if GSN scored a winner and a home run, Kelsey. A niche following on a message board does not. I'm just saying.

I saw the new Chain Reaction for the first time when I woke up from my Saturday rest and what I thought of it is I think GSN decided to copy Password and use some Password elements in creating this new Chain Reaction because when I saw it I thought the bonus round was a copy of Password's Alphabetics round and made the bonus round cool. The new host of Chain Reaction Mike Catherwood is someone I had never heard of before but he is great for a first time game show host. So while I think GSN did a smart Chain Reaction revival I think they could have done much better. But at least what will make Chain Reaction get big ratings for GSN is that it's produced and created by the same creators and producers of The Chase {Bob Boden and Hal Grant}, Overall Grade C, Kelsey

I didn't even think of it as a copy of Password's alphabetics. I just thought of it as something for the whole family to play along with at home, unlike the bonus round in Dylan Lane's version, you couldn't really play along with that. Maybe that's sort of what GSN was thinking when they made the bonus round for this version. That probably didn't even cross GSN's mind, making it like the Alphabetics round on Password, but who knows. We never heard of Ben Gleib before Idiotest either, at least I hadn't heard of him before. GSN goes with a lot of those first timers, with Brooke Burns as an exception since she hosted Dog Eat Dog. Some of them first timers good, some of them not. But nowadays you don't have people who are "devoted" to game shows like for example, Allen Ludden, Richard Dawson (although he did act of course, being on Hogan's Heroes), Bill Cullen, Bert Convy, Tom Kennedy, Jim Perry, Bob Barker, and I'm sure there are more. There were plenty of first timers and probably only first timers, one hit wonders, if you will that were great and are still popular among game show fans today. It's a cheap show, much like the Dylan Lane version. Can't do much better than what we got, in my opinion. How will that catch eyeballs? People may not even care about that. If people like it, they'll watch. If they don't like it, they won't watch. It's that simple.

GSN goes with a lot of those first timers, with Brooke Baldwin as an exception since she hosted Dog Eat Dog. I thought her last name was Burns. Something change? But yeah - I'm agreeing with you. ladykelsey, just because the promo for a game show catches one's attention doesn't necessarily mean that it's going to be a big hit. And you gave it a C, but you still believe that it's still going to get some huge ratings for some frivolous reason. Where is the logic?

I was thinking of a CNN anchor for some reason. My gosh, I wasn't awake completely or something when I typed that. I corrected it. The mind sure registers some unlikely things when I just woke up.

This new version of "Chain Reaction" would have been better off without its host making fun of its contestants on a regular basis.

One of the answers in the second today edition of "Chain Reaction" broadcast by the Game Show Network today had a vulgar word commonly used for describing mean female persons and complaining.

I have no desire to watch any edition of this "Chain Reaction" series anymore after seeing and hearing the vulgar answer used in the edition of it I had described in my previous message.

While "Skinny B****" was going a bit too far, my biggest problem is the same as phimat37 with Idiotest: does GSN even screen these contestants? These players come up with some of the stupidest answers I've ever seen. I thought some of the answers given during Dylan Lane's version were bad, but those don't even compare to the answers given in Mike Catheterwood's (sorry, had to do it! ) version. It's no wonder why this guy pokes fun at the contestants. It's because their answers are terrible. I'm also not the biggest fan of the new set. I honestly prefer the darker atmosphere like that of Lane's CR. This one just feels weird to me and I don't know why honestly. I think it might have something to do with the color scheme in the background, as well as the lighting. The gameplay is still good though. I'll give it that. Still, I wish the contestants were better and I'm not too fond of the set for Catheterwood's (sorry, I couldn't resist again) set.

[...] It's no wonder why [Catheterwood] pokes fun at the contestants. It's because their answers are terrible. Honestly...I'm thinking this is the point. The host has nothing to poke fun at if the contestants are good, meaning he'd have to (gasp!) actually host the show, and good contestants means a bigger chance of (gasp!) actually giving money away! And wow, "Skinny B****" is such a transparent attempt to get people talking about the show it's not even funny.

I'd rather the host actually host the show with the occasional joke than constantly making fun of bad contestants. Just seems unprofessional to me, but unfortunately, this is how the game show world works now. It's not just Mike, but Ben Gleib too with Idiotest.

I mean, contestants are bound to get an answer wrong once in awhile, I'd rather have contestants who act like they want to be there instead of letting the screen call you an idiot.
Ben Gleib is funny when he pokes fun at the contestants, but which is better, acting like you want to be there or acting like an "idiot"? Same for Chain Reaction and Mike Catherwood isn't as funny as Ben Gleib.
