In 2000 NBC decided to bring The Weakest Link to America with the wonderful and fun Anne Robinson and it became such a hit that after NBC canceled it in 2001 a syndicated version of The Weakest Link was made with TPIR announcer George Gray replacing Anne Robinson as host. When I got my The Weakest Link PC game installed on Halloween it inspired me to write this thread about it and I would like to know if anyone remembers it, Kelsey

Actually, the US version began in 2001 and ended in 2002, while the Syndicated version ran until 2004. And yes, this is one of those shows I wish could get a second chance on TV.

Yeah it was one of my favorites. Anne Robinson was the best host, IMO. I sort of miss this show.

I liked the syndicated version more. You couldn't be really smart and win, you'd get voted off,

Wasn't really sure where to put this actually, but it's modern. And it's also casting! I first heard about it on BuzzerBlog's Twitter yesterday. The full BuzzerBlog article is also HERE. Casting info is included if you're interested in trying out. I think Jane Lynch is a perfect choice to host this. I can certainly see it. A combination of George Gray and Anne Robinson. Sarcastic and serious. I also read something about a twist as it pertains to the game play. I don't think it was in the BuzzerBlog article but I read it somewhere I think. I don't have a source as I don't remember where I read that right now.

Please let the twist be that you can't vote off the strongest link

Oh Jesus. I remember hating her as the psychologist on Two and a Half Turds, so this would be a match made in Heaven.
I like the progressive money bank, but I agree with one thing: The strongest link should NOT be allowed to be voted off.

Well I thought it was pretty good watching it on Tuesday night. Jane Lynch is no Anne Robinson, but she's perfect for the role. She did a great job I thought. I didn't have any real problems with the gameplay either.

I saw the first episode as well. I thought it was pretty good. Jane Lynch wasn't bad at all. My main gripe is that for most of the game, you can't see the timer until there's 30 seconds left, but it was there the whole time when there were only 3 players remaining. A little inconsistent there, but not a deal breaker. I'm already looking forward to the second episode.

The gameplay is fine (but with the time running out, Jane needs to finish the question instead of just blabbing at normal speed) and Jane Lynch is okay, but I think I'm spoiled because of how George Gray used to tailor his hosting to the round. If he saw time was running out, he'd allow an extra second or so for the team to yell "BANK!" and he would try to finish the question by speeding up a little bit.
Holy crap, game play flaw, in Round 5 Jane stopped with one second in the round, the timer turned red before the clock hit zero, and Reanna could have shouted "BANK!" and won another $2,500 for the team. Jane Lynch is almost like a robot.
Jane Lynch is okay but I have high standards for Weakest Link hosting. It's pretty much as I expected, Jane Lynch was a snarky cantankerous therapist on Two and a Half Turds and to this, I give her credit because it plays to her strengths. She's better on this than on Hollywood Game Night, so I have to give credit for that.

I wasn't a big George Gray fan on Weakest Link, but that's a good point. George was OK, Anne Robinson was a tough act to follow. I like George on The Price is Right as the announcer.

There were signs that George Gray wasn't as mean or cantankerous as Anne or as Jane. They would actually give him colors like dark blue, dark grey, burgundy and dark green to wear and they would let him do things like speed up the question so they could answer and bank before the clock hit zero, or if he knew the question couldn't be asked in time, he would allow an extra second or so for the team to yell "BANK!". I was used to his brand of snarky anti-host humor on Junkyard Wars, so I knew what to expect out of this and thought he did good.

George was playfully mean and I think some of his banter was ad-libbed

George was playfully mean and I think some of his banter was ad-libbed I imagine he had to. He had over 320 episodes. Anne and Jane combined have 89.
