I’m surprised no one has mentioned this yet, but Butch Hartman (creator of The Fairy Oddparents) appeared on The Match Game-Hollywood Squares Hour in January 1984. He missed out on winning $30,000 twice in his run. Hartman appeared on episodes 45-47 (original air dates Tuesday January 3, 1984 to Thursday, January 5, 1984). On episode 45, he won both the MG and HS games; on episode 46 he won HS, and on episode 47 he lost HS.
His closest opportunity at the $30,000 prize came in episode 45, after winning $1,000 in the Super Match by responding "Fruit" to "<Blank> Cocktail". Playing the Head-to-Head with Christine Claridge (who had the 30 bonus card), he replied "Hot" to "<Blank> Pepper", failing to match Claridge's reply of "Salt and".
On episode 46, he only won $250 in the Super Match (responding "Flag" to "American <Blank>") so he was not able to play for the $30,000.
