It is with great sadness that I announce that Monty Hall, best known as the creator and original host of the iconic TV game show "Let's Make a Deal," has died at age 96.
He died today of Heart Failure at his home in Beverly Hills, California, his daughter announced today.
Monty Hall was born Monte Halperin on August 25, 1921 in Winnipeg, Canada, the younger of 2 sons (including brother Robert, who also adopted the surname Hall as an adult) born to a butcher father.
In 1947, Monty married the love of his life, Marilyn Plottel, to whom he was married for 70 years until she died at age 90 earlier this Summer; Monty and Marilyn were the proud parents of 3 children--including daughter Joanne (known professionally as Joanna Gleason), an actress in her own right known for, among other acting jobs, the short-lived 1992-1995 "Murphy Brown" spin-off "Love & War," starring the recently-deceased Jay Thomas.
Monty began his long-time Broadcasting Career as host of the short-lived "Video Village" (succeeding original host Jack Narz) until its cancellation; he then hired Stefan Hatos, his long-time business partner, to help him pitch a new game show idea called "Let's Make a Deal," which subsequently began its 13-year original run on NBC on December 30, 1963, airing for 5 years on NBC before moving to ABC on December 30, 1968; after ABC canceled the series, new episodes of "Let's Make a Deal" continued in syndication--eventually being revived for 2 short runs in both 1980 & 1984-1986 in first-run syndication.
In 1972, Monty Hall created another game show, "Split Second," for ABC, which aired until 1975 for 3 years; initially, Monty did not host "Split Second," but rather chose Jim Narz (known by his stage name Tom Kennedy) to host the show, with Monty himself hosting the show for a short run from December 1986 - June 1987 in first-run syndication for Viacom Enterprises, Inc. (now known as CBS Television Distribution).
Meanwhile, the iconic "Let's Make a Deal" was successfully revived for CBS Daytime in 2009, this time with entertainer Wayne Brady as host--a job he still maintains, entering his 9th years as host this Fall, with Jonathan Mangum as his sidekick/announcer (the role filled on the original series by Jay Stewart, who committed Suicide in 1989 at age 71).
My hope & prayer is that as he died today, Monty Hall made a deal with God to enter Heaven with Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior.
I should also point out that 2 short runs (both in 1990 and in 2004) aired on NBC of "Let's Make a Deal," including one hosted by veteran game show announcer Bob Hilton and the 2004 run hosted by Billy Bush (real-life nephew of former President Dubya and grandnephew of former President George H.W. "Daddy" Bush).
RIP to "America's Big Dealer," Monty Hall!!!!!

Another game show legend now departed. Months after his wife passed away. Wouldn't surprise me if Wayne Brady will do a tribute on the CBS version in the near future.
R.I.P. Mr. Hall. He's now doing deals with the angels in the biggest marketplace in heaven.

RIP Monty. Wonderful host. Loads of personality, one of the best at handling suspense.

Wow, today was such a good day until I read this. Crap.
Definitely one of the best Hosts out there loved LMAD with him, and even thought he did a good job handling Beat the Clock.
R.I.P. Monty ðŸ˜

Monty also hosted the short-lived It's Anybody's Guess when he was around.

So, it's not Les Moonves fault if LMAD isn't currently on Buzzr?

So, it's not Les Moonves fault if LMAD isn't currently on Buzzr? I know that GSN would love to show a Let's Make A Deal marathon to remember Monty by but I said here 3 years ago that GSN can not show Let's Make A Deal because CBS doesn't want it. By the way, Monty was also on the old Odd Couple once.

So, it's not Les Moonves fault if LMAD isn't currently on Buzzr? Okay, let's not start a war between CBS and God-knows-who. None of this.
