I respect Fremantle so much for this. I wish other outlets (like namely Sony) would do the same. Everyone wins here.

Is everybody happy here, or are they not?
I don't understand!

This seems like a win-win to me. The fans get to enjoy their clips, and Fremantle makes money.
It's amazing... Fremantle is monetizing unofficial uploads of their material, and is also launching a new channel devoted to airing their legacy titles. Meanwhile, not only is Sony largely sitting on their game show library, but they're also taking down fan videos. I guess to be fair, Fremantle doesn't have much else to offer in the US besides game and reality shows, whereas Sony has plenty of scripted shows (not to mention movies) that they're making money off of. But it would be nice if Sony could find some profitable way to let the public enjoy their classic game shows.

Kudos to Fremantle for a change.

▲ Totally agreed in the kudos for Fremantle. They take so much flack from fandom, and in the past most of it was probably deserved, but they've come a long way since the Bad Old Days.
Think of it this way: This fall will be seventeen years since Match Game '98, and fourteen since Card Sharks '01—both of which technically occured when Fremantle was under a different regime and known by a different name. Isn't it about time we at least considered re-evaluating them based on their good points, instead of continuing to hold them perpetually responsible for their worst failures?

“When we see a fan of our show who has gone through the hassle of uploading (content from) it, it’s not an indication of them stealing from us — we see it as fan loyalty,” Delfosse said.
What a breath of fresh air this statement is, and so true as well. Fremantle has definitely earned my respect. I only wish Buzzr was being launched in my area (which it is not yet), because I would be watching it all the time and could tell GSN and Sony to pound sand. Meanwhile, I will be stuck with GSN, which pretty soon will be nothing but Harvey, the same tired old rerun-abused originals day in and day out, and crappy miserable new originals like Lie Detectors and It Takes a Church. The Chase, Idiotest, and Harvey Feud aren't too bad once in a while, but everything else is just meh, and I don't understand how Harvey can be run so frequently without taking the slightest hit in the ratings department.
Unless GSN wows me and picks up some stuff like Wheel of Fortune, Supermarket Sweep (how GSN could pick up the mediocre STYD and neglect to pick up the far superior Sweep is beyond baffling), Fifth Grader, Woolery Lingo, or more non-Fremantle classics like Clark Pyramid to fill the void likely about to come over the morning hours, I might just have to cancel my cable subscription and give up GSN after over 15 years, and in the meantime hope and pray that Buzzr expands to more markets.
I totally understand GSN having to get rid of the Fremantle classics, and their removal per se doesn't bother me; but I just with they could do something slightly better to fill the void. I mean so far all we have gotten is STYD (mediocre) to replace Sale of the Century, another tired rerun of Catch 21 to replace $25K Pyramid, which wasn't even a Fremantle show, and a billionth rerun of 9th Season O'Hurley Feud to replace an airing of Match Game.
Sorry about the rant; just needed to get that off my chest. I know GSN doesn't give a crap about what I think, as long as the people keep piling in in droves to watch Harvey over and over again.

Not only is it a problem with game show fans, but Sony is just as bad with their soaps. Most Young and the Restless uploads don't last long on there for example. What really bugs me about some of the things Sony likes to go after are shows that don't get rerun exposure on cable or terrestrial television. And if it weren't for some people, certain episodes of Chuck Woolery's Wheel of Fortune and Three On a Match wouldn't even exist today and they still want to block that stuff; it's episodes that aren't even in their library. The shows aren't on DVD, Crackle, Hulu or iTunes... like, really, why do they sit on their shows and do nothing? Money could be made and everyone will win. It's just so frustrating as a fan.
They've got decades worth of solid programming and people shouldn't have to go through so much just to post a clip on YouTube, like having to change file names and go unlisted and everything... it's freaking game shows and soap operas. It shouldn't have to be treated like it's some sort of secret organization.
I'm glad Fremantle sees that uploading a clip of a show from 10, 20, or 30 years ago or even a full episode every now and then doesn't mean that they have to lose out.

While I've already known about Fremantle's stance for a while, it's still refreshing to see. They may not care too much about reviving a show and keeping it good, but they definitely respect their archive. As for Sony, that's their prerogative. I know it sucks, and their stance is pretty much "If we're not doing anything with these things then neither should anybody else!", but keep in mind that their most recent set of takedowns caused pretty much anything under the Merv Griffin, Chuck Barris, Barry-Enright, and Bob Stewart labels to disappear. it would be nice if Sony could find some profitable way to let the public enjoy their classic game shows. Honestly...I don't think they care, especially when it comes to Wheel and Jeopardy! where airing classic stuff on GSN (even as late as about 2005) would draw comparisons to the currently-airing shows...and in Wheel's case, negatively. if it weren't for some people, certain episodes of Chuck Woolery's Wheel of Fortune and Three On a Match wouldn't even exist today and they still want to block that stuff; it's episodes that aren't even in their library. Exactly. British networks, particularly the BBC, keep a list of what's known to survive and what doesn't, and they welcome the return of anything they've listed as missing or incomplete. Companies here in the States might do well to follow the BBC's example. The shows aren't on DVD, Crackle, Hulu or iTunes... like, really, why do they sit on their shows and do nothing? Money could be made and everyone will win. It's just so frustrating as a fan. Sony isn't exactly managed well in general, honestly, and it's been made clear over the years that they don't mind negative publicity since it means they're being talked about. They legitly think telling BroadBand_TV to take down any content ID matches is the best way to go about things, and that's their option to exercise. We can argue it for days, but in the end it's Sony's choice.

▲ Yes. It falls under the Sony umbrella by virtue of the Screen Gems → Columbia Pictures Television → Columbia TriStar → Sony evolution.

Thinks FM should FIRE Sandler and go a new direction?
She could have been hurt and HE DIDN'T GIVE A FLYING FLADOO!
Not to mention he did that one other time when a contestant wanted to do a shout out and WENT OVER on the wheel......
You deleted expletive. To quote Alex Trebek.
Not saying be like Marc Breslow OR Bart Eskander someone WHO KNOWS what he's DOING with direction/cues/etc. on the show!

Okay - you posted a now-deleted video. Even so, I should really make a thread dedicated to Fremantle (based on how much people decide to talk about it on the board). This is it.
Want to praise/complain? Go for it.
