Hello, game show fans! Happy New Year 2019 to all of you!
Since last summer I've been trying to get into the game show trading circuit hoping to acquire all 44 episodes of Greed, or at least most of them. I've contacted many traders, most of whom were long out of the circuit (have not traded since 2012 or so), ignored me completely, or responded back to me but declined to trade with me. I respect that people are well within their rights to not want to trade with me. But I think my problem is that I'm new. I don't have a HUGE collection! Plus, the shows people really want for trades I don't have access to.
I did think to save up for a DVR and start recording game show episodes on BUZZR but not too many shows are airing on BUZZR and it seems almost everyone has access to that channel anyway. So I'm led to wonder, do I even stand a chance in being known as a trader, attracting traders? Would it at least help if I grew my collection with other game shows?
Thanks.

The best advice I can give you is to record, record, record. I had been recording game shows on-and-off for 6-7 years before I did my first trade, accumulating 150 episodes or so, and even then, I had trouble landing that first trade. Buzzr is definitely not as viable for traders as it was a few years ago, but there are still some traders who don't have access to it (two of whom I've traded with multiple times!), so it's still very much worth recording from. Outside of that, while GSN is most definitely not what it used to be, I'd recommend recording the defunct originals airing at 2-4 AM, because they seem to be pretty poorly-represented on the trading circuit, and I have a feeling they won't hang around for much longer. I'd definitely consider recording first-run shows as well (TPIR, WOF, Jeopardy, Feud, Millionaire, FYSA, LMAD, and the sporadic shows in primetime) because there are some traders that will trade for them. Aside from those, keep a keen eye on any game shows that may be airing on cable, whether they're in first-run or reruns (Black College Quiz on Aspire/Bounce and Deal or No Deal on CNBC come to mind, and I'm sure there are others).
When you do get that first trade (and maybe I can help you out; check your PMs), I would recommend not going all-in on Greed. Try devoting a portion of the trade to shows that are more likely to get you trades with other traders, like vintage TPIR, Joker's Wild, etc., and on a related note, try trading with people who don't even have Greed in their collections (I'm one of them!) to bolster your own collection and potentially interest some of the traders who do have Greed in their collections.

Thanks for this advice! There actually are some game shows though that i am also interested in aside from Greed (FOX's five-episode It's Your Chance of a Lifetime, for instance, NBC's Weakest Link, Friend or Foe?, etc.) As I'm typing this response to you i am going through your site now. It'll probably be a while before i get back to you regarding a trade because i'm revamping my site. Thanks again! You're awesome!
EDIT: Also, i get my episodes by downloading them from YouTube. This is while I'm waiting to save for a DVR until i can afford one. Annoyingly, there were a bunch of USA episodes of Weakest Link on YouTube but the guy who kept uploading them had his channel shut down and i never downloaded any of them. Ugh....

If you have Buzzr, I think it's especially a good time to get into recording. They're still running classics aplenty mostly untampered with. Some people might not have the channel and don't want to wait to get certain shows.
