I cannot wait for him to go to Wheel of Fortune. Seriously.

I cannot wait for him to go to Wheel of Fortune. Seriously. If he can clean that show up, that would be perfect. In my opinion, there are too many Toss-Up puzzles.

If the Triple Toss Up doesn't return in 2020-21, it will be tied with the Double Play as the shortest lived change, as it lasted only the 1995-96 season.

Coincidentally, Double Play was introduced in Friedman's first full season.

And Megaword debuted during the last months of Nancy Jones' tenure as WOF producer and was retired at the beginning of the first full Friedman season.

I am not sure when exactly in 2020 that Mike will take over as EP. Will it be January or September 2020?

Harry will retire this coming Spring when the current seasons of Wheel and Jeopardy are finished taping. Mike's first shows as producer will probably be taped next July(in the case of Jeopardy, it might depend on Alex's health)

Sounds like Friedman was never a fan of the Megaword category. And speaking of Friedman, was it his idea to retire the classic puzzle board in favor of the computerized version?

Pat didn't like the Megaword category. He even acted like it on air IIRC. As to whether Friedman had the computerized puzzle board idea, I don't know. It's possible. Note that 10 years earlier than the touch screen board's debut(2/1997), other word games like Million DOllar CHance of a Lifetime, Scrabble, and Crosswits 1986 were using computerized boards.

This is what the Wheel of Fortune History Wiki says. (I know it's not the most authoritative source, but it seems believable to me.)
"During Friedman's first taping as producer, he noticed that it took an hour to tape a 30-minute show due to the manual, trilon-based puzzle board that had been used since 1974 and had expanded in December 1981. His first order of business was to see about making the puzzle board fully electronic, which was not realized until February 1997."
What I do wonder is if it was his idea to revert the mechanical puzzle board's border to something closer to the classic look, after it was changed to the golden spiky border in Jones' last season. The road show board was used early in the season, which makes me think it must have been a last minute decision.

That info is per an interview with Harry, though I don't remember the specific source offhand. In any case, the electronic board definitely shortened tapings immensely, mainly because the staff no longer needed to go through the lengthy between-rounds process they'd had with the trilon boards (moving the board offstage, swapping out the slides, double-checking to make sure everything was in its proper place, and moving the board back onstage took a long time - a fact which was masked pretty well during the Shopping era but became somewhat more obvious after it was dropped).
