Hello Everyone,
I have a VERY Curious Question about some of the great TV game show hosts: if you're a Game Show Host like Alex Trebek for example, does that qualify you as a member of Actors' Equity?
I don't mean hosts who were actors e.g. Patrick Wayne before, during, AND after being a TV game show host.
Another good example is Bob Barker. As "Price is Right" host for 35 years til he retired and was succeeded by Drew Carey, in his entire career, was Bob Barker EVER a Member of Actors' Equity?
Bill Cullen? Bob Eubanks? Wink Martindale? Monty Hall? etc.
It's a really curious question I've been wondering about as an Avid Game Show watcher for as long as I can remember, and by Gosh, I sure would LOVE an answer along with a link to such answer.
Thanks in advance.
Steve

Unless any of them were ever stage actors (i.e. on Broadway), I'd say no, not part of Actors' Equity. The union for TV performers (including game show hosts) would be SAG-AFTRA (or before they merged, AFTRA).

Family Feud did a question about Game Show Hosts. One on the Daytime version in 1976, and the other on the Syndicated version in 1983-84.

THey didn't use the same surveys for both, as Pat Sajak was on the 1983-84 survey, and at the bottom of it, just as WOF was hitting in syndication. Barker, CUllen, Martindale, Dick Clark, Peter Marshall, Rayburn, Monty, and Sajak were the eight on the survey. 95 points out of 100 were possible.
