Remember Michael Larson on Press Your Luck back in 1984? He made his tuition and won $110,237 in cash and prizes. That was an all time record in a history in daytime. Last Sunday night on a current vision of Press Your Luck, the lady won over $400,000 in cash and prizes. She follow the same path as Michael Larson's memorizing patterns.

She did not memorize any board patterns, as the board patterns are presumably random enough nowadays that they couldn't be memorized.

SPOILERS in the title. Honestly, I don't think this should be spoiled right away.

Also, you have to keep in mind that the board has been adjusted for inflation. Michael's total in 2020 dollars is $272,026.51.

Never even crossed my mind, because you knew someone was going to do it eventually. I thought somebody had done it last season actually, but I guess not. I'm not trying to take anything away from that lady, but it's really not impressive by today's standards with prizes and cash being worth MUCH more.
Plus, as mentioned above the board is randomized now because of Michael Larson. There's still a debate as to whether he cheated. I think that's a BS debate. Just my opinion. He was smart enough to figure out that the board had a pattern, he beat the system if you will. That's not cheating, that's just damn smart on Michael Larson's part. I couldn't have even done that, my brain would blow up.

1. Michael Larson did not cheat. There wasn't a rule that said you couldn't memorize the patterns and the timing of the buzzer. The game was to blame because there were only 5 patterns at the time of 18 lights. With modern computer and "true random" technology, this feat would be impossible today.
2. The new win was very impressive but let's keep it real here. The final round has prizes worth over $100k. Some dude won His and Her Tesla cars worth $173k and brought that total to like $480,000 which is nuts.
3. I gotta admit the new PYL is pretty cool but I haven't watched this new season. I have a TV but no antenna.

Also, you have to keep in mind that the board has been adjusted for inflation. Michael's total in 2020 dollars is $272,026.51. Even still, the person who won $400,000+ on the second season premiere did beat Larson's total, if Larson's total is roughly $272,000 in today's (2020) dollars.

On this episode, it was a train wreck with no money. They supposed to beat Michael Larson's total and not leave with nothing. Oh well doughnuts is served.

I wouldn't mind seeing this pivot to being an All-Purpose PYL thread (like for the other shows) rather than appearing to have a focus on the one episode from last year. Until then - one for the statistician's corner: Did anyone from either the original Press Your Luck or Whammy! ever survive as many as 10 passed spins at once? The most I can find is a tie between two players in 1986: - Robert, of the $30,000 loss to Kate in April - she first passed him 9 spins, which he survived, earning a few in the process and then passing back to her, which ultimately set her up to pass the 1 back that got him.
- Anne-Marie Carrera - happened on her first day. Paul racked up 3 Whammies in a row, took one spin and hit big bucks, then immediately passed. We all know, of course, how her story turned out...
So, Falawna's surviving 10 from Mathew last night sets a new record there - even if in the end those two went the way of Eric/Adriana anyway.

Cindy on the 5/31/84 episode of the 80’s series had an 8 spin pass, making it through all spins without stopping on a whammy and went on to win the game

Le sigh. Have to edit the title when I think this is appropriate. Everyone - including zouisjr - KEEP SPOILERS UNDER A CUT.

As a fan of PYL back in the day, I love the modern version. Bigger money on the board in the main game, as is to be expected 35 years later, and much more exciting prizes to be had. I've read online comments bemoaning the bonus round, and suggesting people would rather watch two regular games during a prime time hour. No way! The bonus round makes is well done and exciting, and worthy of prime time. I think it's a great addition. If the show ever came back in syndication, they'd cut the bonus round, of course, and play regular games. The bonus round is perfect for a prime time version of the game we know and love.
And this evening I completed the process of applying to be a contestant on the upcoming season. Wish me luck!
As for my vote: Larson wasn't a cheater.
