Jane: Tonight on a special Instant Bargain.... body doubles, and the people who create them. Maria Shriver reports....
Maria: Tonight we are standing outside the home of a preeminent game show announcer. Who happens to work on a show for NBC called $ale of the Century. He is well noted for bringing graphics to life on a number of various projects, he decorates for parties and events, and even.....owns a cranberry bog. Now he adds another talent to his roster. Steve Anderson......body double creator.
Katie: Steve, can I have a look at Steve?
Steve: Of course, but ask yourself.... Is it really Steve?
Katie: Can't really say it is. You must have spent a fair amount to build this.... at least $100 I'd say. How much did it cost you to put such a piece together?
Steve: I worked it out that with materials, labor time and profit margin if I commissioned something like that it would be at least $500. Materials cost $150 so that’s the bare minimum it would run me.
Katie: Alright. Now, here's the next question: Why would you spend so much money on a life-size replica of yourself that looks nothing like you?
*Audience laughs*
Steve: Watch it Kate! If I paid the higher cost, I’d be getting someone who is a bit handier around a sewing machine than I.
Katie: I don't really understand...And yet you spent $150 and your own time to do this. You must really be praying for that stimulus check, huh?
Steve: What can I say? Grundy's pays me well. It was fun making it, even more fun freaking out my roommate, and at least I didn’t blow it on Keno..... And it would be a one of a kind offer on the show? Something for the contestant to remember me by. And of course, they could make one for themselves with a $15,000 gift card to Michaels.
Katie: I should have known this was going to be a shameless prize plug.... Maria?
