Just when you thought we didn't have enough great British game shows coming to America, fans of the UK '90s show The Crystal Maze will find it on Nickelodeon, hosted by Adam Conover.
Adam Conover actually used to work for CollegeHumor and hosted a partially true show called Adam Ruins Everything on TruTV for a few years.
Here's my take on it:
WHAT I LIKE:
The games are actually faithful to the original. I even found myself attempting to solve the puzzles that were proposed. MEGA Crystal -- You can opt to make one of the crystals worth double one time a game. Rules are the same -- This game has all of the idiosyncrasies of the '90s TV show coupled with some wit.
WHAT I DON'T LIKE:
only 8 games per episode No "choices", the game is pre-selected and the player is chosen.
Adam is an okay host. I mean he's no Richard O' Brien but he at least can host a show and the show is more kid-oriented, whereas the original show was played with all adults.
Prize money is $100 for every gold token, with -$100 for every silver token, if 100 or more tokens are accumulated, the prize is augmented to $25,000.
Your thoughts on this?

No "choices", the game is pre-selected and the player is chosen. I think I read somewhere that the original UK version's "choices" were pre-selected, in a way. Not by production, but by the team captain for that show? I read it somewhere, but now I don't know where that was.

25K seems like a high payout for a kids game show, unless they do something like Card Sharks young peoples week did

The current version in the UK is similar to the Conover version except you have a total of 10 games to play, I vaguely remember the '90s version asking the captain about skill, mental, physical or mystery game, but this one it's pre-selected. Other than that, the games are fairly true to the original game, actually. The American version gives cash, whereas the British version has a tier system: 0-49 net gold: No prize except the crystal 50-99 net gold: Lower prize 100+ net gold: Better prize. The American version isn't bad, I just wish there were more than 8 games even with the "mega crystal".

The Mid-tier prize was Series 1 only.
From Series 2 onward, it was "100+ or nothing."
