Simply put, I love game shows more than anyone I’ve ever met and I want to talk about it.
First of all, I want to say that I’m an avid trivia buff so Game Shows bring out the best in me.
My grandma & I (and my mom to an extent) watched game shows while she was folding socks. It’s one of my favourite memories. She recently passed. But I will always have those memories of Lingo & Jeopardy & Wheel of Fortune watching with her at home.
When a man, whom I forget his name, created the YouTube channel “What’s My Line”, I was hooked all over again. He started uploading every episode since the first one in 1950. This was a foreign concept to me. I can remember being in university scrolling up and up and up until a new episode of WML was uploaded & being enamoured with it(I still am to this day). Naturally, this led me to I’ve Got a Secret, To Tell The Truth, You Bet Your Life, and semi-recently, “The Name’s The Same”. And if you want any proof that those jokes still hold up, consider the lady whose secret was that she gave birth at a bridge game & I believe it was Bill Cullen who asked “as this thing was happening, did you yell out BINGO!”
Now, with the help of the Game Show Channel on YouTube, and Archive.org, I feel invigorated again. Like watching these episodes for the first time, (In some cases I am).
Thank you all! God bless! Long live the game/panel/quiz shows!
I always wondered if Gene Rayburn or Allen Ludden or any of the other 5,000,000 wonderful game show hosts ever sat in their dressing room and thought to themselves “this is the best gig I’ve ever gotten”. I’d like to think they did.
PS: excuse my bad grammar, I AM a creative writer but I’m typing on my phone so bear that in mind.
