▲ The name you were actually looking for would have been Steve Allen, who called wrestling matches for the DuMont network during the Golden Age (of both television and kayfabe). The punchline being that Allen, known for being a staunch super left-wing liberal atheist (and big time against organized religion) and extremely supportive of the professional wrestling scene as late as the early 90's (as well as extremely supportive of violence on television and was more lax on television censorship than most, though still critical of comedians like Lenny Bruce and George Carlin), became a conservative in the last few years of his life and even was one of the spokespeople for organizations against pro-wrestling and violence on television. He also became a member of the Parents Television Council. His sudden change politically, socially, and religiously is pretty interesting to read about.
