So with the news that Meredith Viera is leaving Millionaire, discussion has sprung up about who the new host should be for the next season. I figured I'd bring the discussion here.
Personally, I'd prefer to see Regis or Tom Bergeron hosting.
Okay, honestly, the Regis suggestion is 'hey, I can dream'; I just couldn't see them bringing him back unless they were to return to the classic format, which I think is extremely unlikely.
Tom actually seems like a good choice of host to me, and he's the much more likely of the two.
So what do you think? Who would you want to see hosting Millionaire?

First off, I have to say - hi, new face! Regis is good... If we're reverting back to the show's old roots, like you said. Unless there's some tasty water somewhere out there, then I can't see him coming back. (That and I think he's a little too serious for daytime game shows.) With Bergeron, I would assume that you'd have to factor in DWTS tapings two times a year and a travel schedule (Millionaire tapes in NYC?). With that being said... He did pretty good with Hollywood Squares. This daytime version of Millionaire is a light-hearted show, and I think given the light-hearted feel that Squares had, maybe he is a good choice. I can tell you that there's at least one person who's going to think otherwise...

I would mind them doing like what TPIR does for their announcers, trying out a bunch of hosts and seeing what Fits.

They've pretty much done that with the guest host thing, IMO.
My answer is simple: Not Regis.

Figured I'd bump this back up - rumor's going round that they're trying to get Cedric the Entertainer as host.
...if this is true, are you serious? The Steve Harvey approach isn't gonna work on a show played for 50 times the stakes.
What do you guys make of it?

I just hope that Cedric knows it's "Is that your final answer?" and not "Are you SURE Sure?"

I just hope that Cedric knows it's "Is that your final answer?" and not "Are you SURE Sure?" I'm not sure if there's anyone who doesn't know the catch phrase for Millionaire. Cedric will do fine - given that he doesn't turn it into a flat-out comedyfest.

I'd like to see Jim Rome do it, but JR would not hear of it, as he's based in LA and the show is NYC.

Meredith didn't make the show all serious and stuff, but the show became a joke within itself lately with the randomization with the categories and dollar distributions.
I kind of wish they'd go back to the timer format instead of this current one.

I'm going to miss her. She's one of my favorite hosts.

Who I would choose as Who Wants To Be A Millionaire's new host would be Bebe Neuwirth {Frasier} because she would be wonderful and her personality would be great for game shows because I think Bebe Neuwirth deserves a chance at hosting game shows and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire would be perfect for her

I remember the day I was first drawn to Who Wants to be a Millionaire, it was August 25, 1999 (also Regis Philbin's birthday), and I remember seeing the first contestant to view the million dollar question. It was unique, because not only was it the first million dollar question viewers got to see, but the only time the answer to a million dollar question was D.
The original format and original host was enough to draw me to the show in 1999, and I watched it right to the end of the original ABC run in 2002.
September 2002 came, and I thought the show was done for, but nope. The show was revived for syndication, though with Meredith Viera at the helm, it wasn't the same without Regis, and I was turned away from such series.
When Regis came back to hosting such game show on ABC, it was Super Millionaire in 2004, and I must say, it was good to see Regis host Millionaire again, even for just a short time.
By 2006 or 2007, I learned that the format on Meredith's version was altered a bit - no more $32,000 level, but instead a $25,000 level, and $64,000 and $125,000 were both replaced with $50,000 and $100,000 respectively. Sounded like the prize budget was shrinking and that could have been due to declining ratings.
They added the clock/shuffle format by 2008 (I think?), and while it was necessary to do that for the sake of making the game go faster and to boost ratings, but it still kept me away from the show.
That same format was used in the 10th anniversary edition on ABC with Regis returning, and because Regis came back even for just a short time, it drew me to the show, plus the last Millionaire Regis ever got to host had a contestant make his mark in history by becoming the first contestant to lose on the million dollar question. The only time that losing cue - which was different from the others - was heard on Millionaire on American TV by that point.
Now, come the 2010's, the format for Meredith's version gets ugly, in my opinion. The format was changed significantly, it wasn't the same Millionaire I was so accustomed to. The music cues were quite different too - they weren't the same anymore. The nnly good thing about that current format was that there were no more zero dollar winners - the contestant was guaranteed $1,000 even if he or she lost on the lower levels. But I personally think that, even if Regis did return to hosting, as much as I liked Regis as host, the current format would still keep me turned away from the show.
What are your thoughts on Millionaire?

Meredith brought life to the show. I thought she did a pretty good job at making it look fresh. Although the clock was a major turn-off.
I really haven't been a huge fan of Regis, so it's like... "Yeah. Great. Whatever."
