Wow, and the problems are back. This just made it worse.

Alright, I posted everything to the support forum. Very helpful so far.
They might come around to the board if need be. If they do, you'll know who they are. They'll have five red stars under their name and'll tag someone. Watch "Profile" under the banner if they tag.

It's boring and the 20 second round at the end is so stingy. I've seen quite a few instances where the contestant rings in at the buzzer with three out of four required questions correct, only to be told it's game over. Like right now. The contestant rung in at the buzzer with three correct answers (going for four) and gave the correct answer, only to be told time was up. That is BS! There's no reason for the final round to be as stingy as it is (or was; past show). Why did GSN acquire this show again? -__- You should watch some episodes from 1987 or earlier!

Making a post in normal mode after un-installing and re-installing Firefox (version 24). Just seeing if that helps. And yeah, maybe I should watch earlier episodes of the show. I just hate the final round, that's all. The rest of the show is meh.

I haven't gotten a word back from Support, but I'll let them know what happened.

I was watching the GSN rerun of Sale of the Century today and I found it interesting that they played Physical by Olivia Newton-John on it. It's a coincidence that the longest-running version of Sale of the Century besides our version is the Australian version!
Isn't that neat?

I've seen a number of Australian episodes on YT. They did a great job over there for much of their run. The format is just as fun as it is over here IMO. I wish our version of Temptation was like the one down in Australia too. Maybe it would have lasted longer. Australia got a good 5 years out of that revival.

I found the Game Show Network's broadcast of the edition with the song "Physical" interesting since they could have skipped it or broadcast a re-edited version of that edition with different music in place of the song out of concern for the owner or owners of the song.

There is another case of copyright music being used on Syndicated $ale that would occur later in the run - it has "If You Leave" by OMD. I believe TVLubber had it on YouTube, but was forced to take it down after a copyright claim on an NBC episode. Either way, I'm rather surprised GSN didn't skip today's $ale, given it contained copyrighted music by a real recording artist.

I know that was on the July 7, 1986 show (If you leave), and it was a daytime episode. It might've been on the Syndie run though

I'm surprised America is even stricter than Australia as far as things like these are concerned. I have issues with Australia. I made a new friend recently from there who just happens to live here in Seattle now. I will talk to her at the beginning of next year.

I haven't seen the episode in question yet but I'd be inclined to say that was more than likely cleared ahead of time.

I'm surprised they were able to do that on such short notice!

As someone who's watched GSN for a good 10 years (April 2003-May 2013; currently without it); looking back at some other game show moments with music, they don't seem to have a problem airing any minor moments like this. For example, there's a Match Game '78 episode where Gene dances to a brief portion of Stayin Alive' at the end of the opening segment, which has been shown in its entirety. There's also an episode of Super Password where a clip of one of Bert Convy's old songs plays from back when he was a singer. They've run Jeopardy episodes with the occasional music category without any problems as far as I've seen, and then there's all those Price is Right episodes they showed back in the day where a special song like Celebration or Holiday is used during the end credits instead of the main theme.
Nothing official from me but it's just my observations as a viewer and knowing the rights status of other shows. The bigger problems seem to be with music heavy and reliant shows like Name That Tune (this was always a problem for GSN as far as I've read), and The Gong Show; especially trying to get them on the air on a regular basis. It's probably why we've seen 2 or 3 episodes of Gong in such a long period of time.
If anyone can correct me or point me in the direction of more solid facts, please do so. But I feel like we're much more likely to see quick moments like this on $ale than the other game shows that are entirely music related.
It's one thing that makes me really enjoy $ale; you get moments like this (plus I saw a YouTube clip that had a funny moment involving a question about Ghostbusters) that really are a sample of the times. Physical was a big hit back then. It's great to watch moments like that from a pop culture perspective.

Then why hasn't GSN picked up the rights to Name That Tune?
