I never really understood that blurb in the sidebar. Listen, Mr. Truskey is alright. That's a sign of respect. But, when you call me by my last name, I know in this thread, this guy called you by your last name "obnoxiously", at least your not, I'll give you credit there, just like that guy that called you by your last name obnoxiously also has called me by my last name obnoxiously. "Truskey deleted it [Casey's reply to the other poster]", I realized that and I said "oh crap" to myself. Sorry about that, I didn't mean to delete the reply to the poster above who asked "why modern wheel?"

What I don't get is why Wheel and Jeopardy! are "the nuclear option" for Sony and GSN. If you don't want them competing with the first-run shows, air them in the morning or afternoon. My question of "Why modern Wheel?" kinda stems from my own experience as a viewer: everything since about Season 26 starts to feel "samey" for me, and I grew disenchanted with the modern-day show due to the mess that was Season 28. That was the point where I voted with my remote, and I haven't watched it on anywhere near a regular basis since then. "Then why does the other 89% of the schedule skip the entire period from 1990 to about 2008?" Actually, the current schedule doesn't skip the entire period. The NBC Deal or No Deal now running on the network (and getting more weekend slots lately) dates from that period. So does Chain Reaction. Of course, GSN has previously rerun a bunch of shows from 1990-2008, most notably Regis Millionaire, Karn Feud and their own Lingo. Fair point, but most of the 1990s is still missing. I know GSN had the rights to air several of the Family Channel originals at one point (they aired Season 1 of Family Challenge for about six months or so, and IIRC they had it and Masters of the Maze on a Feast of Favorites poll around 2002-03), although I'm not sure if that's the case anymore.

"What I don't get is why Wheel and Jeopardy! are "the nuclear option" for Sony and GSN. If you don't want them competing with the first-run shows, air them in the morning or afternoon." I meant it would be Sony's ultimate response if Fremantle decides to go all in with their best product on Buzzr. Sure, even if the shows turned up on GSN, they would air well away from the access hour. But right now no version of Wheel or Jeopardy is on the network at any time. That could obviously change if Buzzr develops into a reasonably threatening competitor. There's no disputing tastes, but in the latest published week, 13 million viewers every night begged to differ. That's a fantastic number night after night in today's splintered TV market. Sure, recent Wheel on GSN wouldn't get anywhere close to those numbers, but it would perform pretty well.

If recent seasons (such as Seasons 29-30 of Wheel) would get great ratings like you said, why isn't GSN airing them now? Millions of people bought the Atari 2600 Pac-Man and E.T. games, too, back when the video game market was splintered probably as much as the TV market is today. Doesn't make 'em good. To put it another way, at least some of those 13 million people probably watch because Wheel's comfort food and it's always been there. Just because millions of people watch a show doesn't necessarily mean said show isn't badly-produced.

Unfortunately, I'll be waiting here in NEPA. We're not an O&O. But we do have MeTV and it seems to be doing all right, so hopefully that success will help Buzzr come here in the future. I'm curious to know how deep into NEPA you are. I'm not sure about the reach, but WTXF-TV Philadelphia launched an Allentown translator on South Mountain on UHF Channel 38. Of course, they'll be carrying Buzzr TV, and the reception is perfect in the Lehigh Valley, so if you're in Schuykill, Carbon, or Monroe county, you might have a shot OTA. As for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre market, I'll call it a toss-up. The MyFoxNEPA bunch won't be carrying it considering WOLF-TV is already using up their bandwidth simulcasting WSWB-TV and WQMY-TV. WNEP-TV has Antenna TV on DT-2, and I'm not sure how much they're going to want to launch a DT-3 with the WNEP2 branding for Newswatch 16 at 10:00 and the 7-9 AM show. Plus, they're a Tribune station, so unless all the Tribunes pick it up, count 16 out. So, you're right, you'll have to bank on Nexstar to actually launch a subchannel on WYOU-TV or WBRE-TV.

Fremantle is also putting a lot of effort into the Buzzr YouTube channel. They're already done eight-minute versions of Family Feud and Password and will bring Celebrity Name Game and Body Language to the site later this year. The Feud version is already taping its second round of eps. I kind of like the boiled-down videos, though as I said on the blog, the Password host has Terry Crews syndrome. Which means he yells at the camera a lot. But that's not the worst thing which could happen to Password, which tends toward the quiet and cerebral. Another note from the stories is that Fremantle is pitching its TV subchannel Buzzr at an older audience. Well, duh. Anybody can check GSN's demos. Speaking of our already existing game show network, GSN is really crushing in the ratings lately. In the latest week (February 2-8) GSN averaged 360K viewers total day. Not long ago that would have been an impressive number for prime time. The network ranked 27th in total day among all cable outlets, a very high rank by historical standards. Could Sony start to think that GSN might be a top 20 cable net? Hm, last year's Wheel could show up on GSN sooner than I thought. Just to give you an idea, in the latest week Wheel's weekend repeat pulled nearly six million viewers. What might repeats of recent episodes do on GSN?

I've been saying to myself, If GSN could run recent Jeopardy and/or Wheel of Fortune on weekends, instead of always Family Feud, those shows could give GSN another boost. Think about it.
Wheel from 9am to 2pm, Jeopardy from 2pm to 6pm, then Harvey Feud later on. If possible, think how well GSN could do in the ratings on weekends compared to their old, boring weekend schedule.
In my opinion, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune really do belong on a game show network, you can't have a game show network without them, especially GSN, a network continuing to crush in the ratings.

I've been thinking for a while that recent Wheel and Jeopardy! will be popping up on GSN. I think the noon slot would be a good fit.

GSN tried Jeopardy/Wheel at Noon in 2008/2009 and it didn't do great. Although that was 94/95 Wheel, but the Jeopardy was recent, from last decade. If GSN really wants to dominate, they should air it in blocks on weekends where more people are likely to watch it, just like they do Harvey Feud on the weekend. Jeopardy and Wheel have a potential to dominate on GSN just like Steve Harvey does. I just don't see GSN putting them on at Noon again. Last time Jeopardy was on at noon was in 2011 or 2012 where it also bombed then, if I recall.

In Houston, 13 , 20 and 26 are the only O&Os that I know of. So there's a chance.

Just wished that Buzzr could be also getting from the GSN and Sony Library the Chuck Barris collection as well as other collections that are not Goodson and Toddman. As would love for them to get the Merv Griffin library or Barry-Enright Library. As GSN really I very, very hardly watch!
