GSN's posted a debut promo for the show (like in 2006, they're not pointing out this is a revival)...
And boy, does this leave me with several unanswered questions. What's with the set? It looks like they got a bunch of huge-ass cellphones/Android devices/iWhatevers. Why does Catheterwood look like he's got 46 teeth and faking his enthusiasm? Who thought it'd still be a good idea to use two-word phrases and terms? Are the contestants all really gonna feel like they were plucked from Central Casting?
A promo's supposed to inspire you to tune in. Maybe I've got a bias from having actually watched the first two versions (Cullen, Emmons/Edwards) and only tolerating the third (Lane) long enough to put together a Video Archive, but all things considered I'm not feeling any better about this revival.

Why does Catheterwood look like he's got 46 teeth and faking his enthusiasm? I'm assuming this is a typo...

I like the new look on the promo, and Catherwood (I'll avoid sophomoric puns on his name) seems much more relaxed and personable than Lane. Anyway, from Twitter...Casey Abell: Douglas, with GSN's new Chain Reaction debuting 7/16, do you have any recent numbers for the current version? Thanks. Douglas Pucci: For 6/01-05, Chain Reaction viewer ranges: 3pm 299k-433k, 3:30 278k-476k Casey Abell: 476K in the middle of the afternoon? Great for GSN, especially for a very old rerun. Wonder what the new series will do.

The sneak peek of the new version has come and gone. My review from the blog...
Forging a new chain
Just watched the sneak preview of GSN's new Chain Reaction with host Mike Catherwood. The natural inclination is to compare and contrast to GSN's previous effort with Dylan Lane. So long story short: there are lots of pluses in the new version, and no minuses. Really. Catherwood is a whole ladder full of steps above Lane. Dylan wasn't quite the hopeless stiff of game show Interweb legend, but the new guy is far more relaxed, witty, and personable with the contestants. Mike can actually talk without it sounding like a painful effort. The set is also an improvement over the gloom and doom of the previous edition. It's light and airy, in tune with the pleasantly addictive gameplay. Most importantly, the old show's build-a-question bonus round, which all too often turned into a giggling disaster, has given way to a blistering speed chain that will hold any viewer's interest. Overall, the new version has kept everything that made the old show a success, and tinkered away all of the previous version's defects. It's a winner-takes-all. One more note. This ep was squeaky clean and fully deserved its TV-G rating. There had been some talk - from me, for instance - that Mike ( Hey There Vagina) Catherwood would preside over a kinkier show. Didn't happen in the preview, anyway.

Mmmm, elephant candy... Mandoli, can we move this to present now that the show is airing?

I would say make a new thread in the proper section (if there isn't one already). I'll lock this.

Dylan Lane is actually coming back? I wasn't expecting that. Can't wait to hear him say "You have 5 seconds to answer. Just spit anything out that comes to mind" in the final round every time a contestant lets the buzzer beat them. Sorry, but I couldn't stand him when he first hosted this show. I just didn't like his attitude. Hopefully he'll be better in that regard this time around.

Dylan Lane's Linkedin profile lists his TV work(he worked as a host on FuseTV prior to CHain Reaction) says he has been an engineer for General Electric for the past several years.

So Dylan Lane's coming back. Wasn't expecting that either. He's probably changed a little, as he was obviously younger when he last did it almost 15 years ago. I really liked him, one of the better young game show hosts, low keyed. He wasn't phony. Unfortunately I don't get GSN anymore since I dropped DirecTV and started streaming using Hulu/Live TV. It's still cool news.

It's not men versus women (like what Lane's original version was), which I'm pretty excited about. I wasn't interested in a battle of the sexes.

Also merged everything for Lane's 2021 version into the AP Chain Reaction thread. So here's where you'll talk about the third attempt from GSN.

There is a big rule change, on the final word, teams can bet up to $1,000

The first three chains have six words instead of seven. Going into the first commercial break, a three word chain is shown for the home audience to guess a la the Missing Link game on the USA run, with the answer revealed after the break. The speed chains from 2006-2007 are back as well. The Betting word chain has seven words. The bonus round is to solve one each of a four word, five word, and six word chain, guessing nine words in all within 60 seconds. A player picks a letter below or above, and whether the word is guessed or not, the next player picks another letter. The clock is stopped after the first and second chains are solved. Getting all nine words in 60 seconds wins the extra $10K, and there is no consolation money if all nine words are not solved correctly.
