In another example of "After they were stars, they were Game Show Contestants", episode 369 of Super Password featured a contestant named "Von Gretchen", who introduced herself as a former Miss Black America. A little research uncovered that she was Miss Black California in 1974, and Miss Black America in 1975. Here is a link to her current Instagram page, indicating that she had a successful career as a pageant director. www.instagram.com/pageantsavvy/?hl=enHere is a photo of her as Miss Black California 1974

April Ortiz was a contestant on syndicated MG episodes 102 and 103 (episodes 0212 and 0213 using the BUZZR ep. #'s) and introduced herself as an "aspiring waitress", which a drew a laugh from GR as she corrected herself to say "aspiring actress". Not sure if this her, but there is successful actress with that name; resumes.breakdownexpress.com/147279-3650025-42384

Another example of stardom prior to being on a Game Show. Maureen Starinsky was a contestant on syndicated MG episodes 181, 182 and 183 (episodes 0371, 0372 and 0373 using the BUZZR ep. #'s), and announced in her interview with GR that she was "Miss Pennsylvania USA last year" (1979). www.newspapers.com/clip/11524798/the-laredo-times/

In another case of a "Star Before they were a Game Show Contestant", Olympic Medalist Kim Gallagher appeared as a contestant on episodes 804 and 805 of Classic Concentration (air dates Friday July 13, 1990 and Monday July 16, 1990), losing two games. She earned a silver medal in 1984 and a Bronze in 1988, both in the 800 meters. At the time of her Concentration appearance, she was in remission from colon cancer, which she was diagnosed with in 1988. Sadly, she passed in 2002 of a stroke at age 38, leaving behind a husband and 13 year old daughter.
Her NY Times obituary is available here (behind a paywall);

Appearing on episodes 492-4 of Syndicated Match Game (Season 3, BUZZR Episode #'s 0992-0994), was a contestant named Suzan Stadner, who indicated she was an aspiring actress. According to her IMDB page, at the time of this episode she already had two writing credits on Fernwood Tonight, and worked under the names Suzan Stadner and Hanala Sagal. One notable accomplishment was presenting decorating and craft segments on the Gary Collins hosted "The Home Show". (One of Collins's co-hosts, Dana Fleming, appeared as a celebrity on MG90.) She has many other notable accomplishments, and is active today on FB and Linkedin. www.imdb.com/name/nm0821179/

On episodes 928 & 929 (Original Air dates Wednesday & Thursday January 9-10, 1991) of Classic Concentration, contestant John Blaylock appeared, losing two games and failing to win any prizes. He identified himself as a "Star Search" Contestant and an aspiring songwriter. He has both a Birmingham, AL Wikipedia page ( www.bhamwiki.com/w/John_Blaylock ) and an IMDB page ( www.imdb.com/name/nm0087956/ ) His only IMDB credit is as composer of the theme for the New Newlywed Game.The Birmingham, AL Wikipedia page for Reality show contestants from AL dates his "Star Search" appearance as 1992, which appears to contradict his comments on CC, as his CC episodes were taped in late 1990. I suppose his SS episodes could've taped in 1990, and not aired until 1992, but a quick Google search did not turn up any detailed information on SS program data. Sadly, according to this obituary ( obits.al.com/us/obituaries/birmingham/name/john-blaylock-obituary?id=27085239) he passed away suddenly in September 2004 at age 43. The obit lists many more of his accomplishments.
