Figured I'd start a thread for GSN ratings. Here's the numbers for July 22-28, courtesy of Douglas Pucci aka Son Of The Bronx. sonofthebronx.blogspot.com/2013/08/gsn-ratings-july-22-28-2013.htmlHaven't been able to digest the whole thing yet, but it seems like $ale is doing decently in the 10 AM slot. Also, Chain Reaction does quite a bit better in afternoons than prime time, which probably works against the possibility of new episodes. Harvey dominates as usual, and Ohno's Minute to Win It pulls some solid numbers as well. Hopefully it will prove to be a good lead-in for The Chase. A Note from an Admin: This thread is meant to be a thread to comment on ratings, not to compare other channels or speculate about how GSN might lose viewers in any way. We want to keep the speculation to a complete minimum in this thread (and any thread that focuses on one thing such as ratings or a TV show or network) so we can keep the thread solely on ratings and so you all can freely comment on the ratings whenever they are posted in this thread. Speculation takes up room, as does arguing. If you need to argue about something take it to PM. If you need to speculate about something, make a thread about it like the "GSN vs. Buzzr" thread for example.
I hope this all makes sense.
Sincerely, phimat37

I read on Casey Abell's blog, Game Show Follies, and he mentioned that GSN viewership for 2014 is off to a flying start. GSN had its most watched month during January 2014, despite that Mind of a Man is bombing. Click HERE to view the ratings for January 20-26, 2014. Some highlights related to the latest ratings report: - It turns out that an episode of $ale of the Century was the highest rated pre-1990 show on GSN during that week, with the highest rated episode experiencing over 350,000 viewers. Sometime last October, $ale had viewership between barely over 100,000 and barely over 200,000 viewers - now it has really improved in ratings big time. Guess the shopping era does seem to work better than the Winner's Big Money Game era, plus it does seem to really fit the title of the show really well.
- Despite rerun abuse and in its fourth cycle, one airing of Press Your Luck did experience almost 350,000 viewers, making it the second highest-rated classic airing that week (maybe this could be a signal for GSN to pick up different Press Your Luck episodes when the current lease expires?).
- Despite its lead-in from infomercials on weekends, Password Plus did experience over 200,000 viewers on the Saturday of that week, and the Sunday airing had well over 100,000 viewers - even topping at least two airings of Mind of a Man.
- The Pyramid with Mike Richards is improving in ratings big time - one episode has viewership in the 500,000 range. Downright impressive, seeing the show was struggling for some time in its first many months on GSN.
- Harvey's Family Feud did dominate the top 5 on the list for that week - in fact, the highest-rated of all the Harvey Feuds that week received over 800,000 viewers!
- Now, a bit of bad news, if you're a fan of Match Game: That show is apparently falling out of favor among GSN's viewers - such show has the bottom two slots on the report. I don't even know if it's going to survive on the network after the lease expires, but it seems as if the target audience that enjoys Match Game is getting up there in age, and it turns out that programming from the 70s is likely on the way out eventually. Of course, it airs at 5:00 in the morning in the Pacific time zone (when people are still likely in bed there), so I wonder if I can declare that slot one of the "graveyard slots", given that hardly anyone is watching GSN at that time?
All in all, 2014 is going in on a high note! And in the wake of 2013 being GSN's most watched year! I bet this will be a sign of things to come for the coming year (except for Skin Wars, that is).

How did The Chase do in GSN's ratings with the season finale Tuesday? Because I know that The Chase has been a ratings blockbuster for GSN and I think it's the ratings that brought GSN more watchers to it's channel, I'm curious to know?, Kelsey

I wonder if extremely cold temperatures and frequency of snow storms across the nation that forced people to stay home was to blame for the record-breaking viewership for January 2014? Wouldn't surprise me if it did.

Wouldn't surprise me if it did. I hate to burst your bubble, but I'm going to go out on a more safe limb here - it's probably getting hot at the right time. I don't think weather has anything to do with it.

I have a theory as to why GSN is getting some monster daytime ratings, like for Catch 21, The Pyramid, Family Feud at 1pm it seems, Lingo at noon, doing better than when it aired at noon before I think.
GSN is available in more than 80 million households now I believe, more than before. So, more people are discovering GSN, and certain shows are new to them. Shop Till You Drop, even getting good ratings for a classic.

How did Minute To Win It score in ratings with the Season 2 debut episode? Because I have noticed that Apolo Ohno's version of Minute To Win It is the second monster hit in ratings on GSN next to The Chase? Kelsey

Just as I've been wondering. Well, modern shows won't do better after classics have aired. That'll be the same for Catch 21 at 10:30am ET. If GSN wants to get rid of classics, they should do it now instead of waiting for the ratings to go downhill in the morning. Match Game still does good for 8am, better than any other show could do. MG has always been the ideal lead in to the day.

Not bad for Card Sharks and Press Your Luck. Even Match Game, as usual for 8am. I know these are the averages, now.

The pre-1990 programming did a lot better, and I think viewership skyrocketed because of Good Friday, and everybody being off that day.

Not everybody gets Good Friday off. I was off all last week for Spring Break, so was my father because he requested it off (he works for the state of California), but I think he'd still have to work on Good Friday, if I recall he has had to in the past.
To my knowledge, not everybody observes Good Friday, company-wise.
Pre-1990 programming has always done better in the morning. It's most likely to dominate modern programming if they put it on directly after classics. If you want good ratings, get rid of the pre-1990 programming, and stick to more modern shows in the morning. Or, find a better lead out of the classics. It's been proven that putting modern shows on after classics, the ratings go down.
One example of that is Karn Feud when it aired at 9:30am surrounded by classics. There are other examples, I'm sure. Deal or No Deal hasn't done well at 11am because of this. There is no logical explanation for modern shows ratings going down besides the fact that classics are its lead in and maybe some people were expecting to see the usual classics at 10am. GSN used to promote its classics lineup, eventually they gave up. If they promoted schedule changes more often for the regular viewers of the network, people would know, just not the casual viewers perhaps.

That's the Idiotest Premiere ratings. Not impressive by today's historic standards.
