Has GSN ever shown season 5 (1981-1982)? I read that in recent years, it was skipped entirely by GSN.

I don't know for sure, but it may have aired prior to the Dark Period, or in the early 2000s.
I do know that for a few seasons (possibly the late-70s) the syndicated run aired only once a week in first-run, then the number of airings got increased to two per week, and definitely by 1983, the syndicated series was airing five days a week from September through early June or Memorial Day weekend.
It could be possible that GSN may not have been interested in airing syndicated Dawson's Feud except for seasons that originally aired five days a week.
I have to admit, I would prefer the latter two seasons of Dawson's Feud over pre-1983 episodes any day. I am not a fan of the really old fashions.

I wonder if the episode with Richard putting make-up on Gene Wood was part of the 5th season? It was shown during Feud 25, and they stated that the taping date was July 1981.

You're probably the only one, since that's pretty much when the show jumped the shark (and definitely when it went to 400-point games in Fall 1984). OK, here's how the syndicated Dawson series went: * Weekly for the 1977-1978 season (39 episodes). * Was weekly at the start of the 1978-1979 season, but ended up going to twice-weekly in January 1979 (initially had a 39-episode order, got an additional 20 episodes added). * Was twice-weekly for the entire 1979-1980 season (78 episodes). * Became a daily series at the start of the 1980-1981 season (160 episodes per season from 1980-1981 to 1984-1985; there were 976 episodes for the entire 1977-1985 run).

Has GSN ever shown season 5 (1981-1982)? I read that in recent years, it was skipped entirely by GSN. On 4/4/2005, when GSN put Rafferty Card SHarks, TOm Kennedy Password Plus, and 90s To Tell the Truth on the daytime weekday schedule, they started airing syndicated Dawson Feud again, and it was reported on Game SHow Forum that a reference was made to Chevy Chase's latest movie, Modern Problems, which came out in 1981, so they might have aired the syndicated 1981-82 season in 2005

This really should be in the Family Feud thread in the Modern section (because it's still in production, regardless of how much time was taken off between hosts/versions). I'm going to keep this here for the time being. If this gets no replies for a few days, then I'll move it.

If possible, I'd much prefer it stay in here because I do not check the Modern section of the board and I will definitely miss if any concrete answers come up.

I'd like to second that motion (if it's even up for debate).
As for the original question, I'm curious where you heard that. I'm not exactly sure what they were airing when this version was pulled in August 2004 or when it returned in 2005.
However when this version of the show was last on the schedule, they were around mid 1981, and that was in March 2010.

Here's where I learned that season 5 was skipped by GSN several years back. This is from a Game Show Forum post made back in 2013 by Chelsea Thrasher: Season 5: Skipped entirely. GSN\'s run jumped from 4-160 to 6-001. If episodes in season 4 after 4-160 were made, they disappeared down the same rabbit hole as season 5. I would have linked to the post, but this site won't let me, due to the address having a comma.

Ok, I looked at the PDF's for fun, and sure enough in early March 2010 (shortly before the show was pulled) that skip is noted. What baffles me is the fact that the last episode that aired before it was pulled in March 2010 featured Richard Dawson having Gene Wood appear on camera following his injury, which if memory serves correctly occured in 1981. That is labeled on those PDF schedules as 6-017. Here's that episode. So...what am I missing?

Wasn't this one of the Syndicated season 5 episodes? It's gotta be it, if it says it was taped in June 1981.

Okay, I think we can now put the speculation to rest.
I found this post made by Danny Dalrymple on YouTube. Even though he's a bit of an obsessed fan of everything Dawson Feud, I'll take his word for it.

Chameleonwhammy CardSharksFan8689 , I'm wondering if the reason for the entire skipping of season 5 had something to do with GSN allowing the rights to the Goodson-Todman library to expire? Remember, in March 2010, a year had gone by since that happened. Soon, GSN would now only be leasing for the library in increments, even Match Game. But thankfully, we can confirm that season 5 did air on GSN. At least there's that.

I loved the final 400-point Dawson season that's so lambasted on the game show boards. Yes, it felt a little rushed, but more gameplay is always a plus in my book. I also really liked the lollipop tree on the 400- and later 300-point eps. I won't even watch eps. from the 200-point era....Talk about SLOW. 5 minutes of yakking and kissing before the game even starts? No thanks! I also hated how Dawson would YELL every answer in the first few years...even if he mumbled in the later years.

Plus, it depends if they aired it between 2003-2007 when it was on during that rotation in the mornings. What interests me is the fact that final episode, labeled as season 6 had a cameo of Gene Wood in a wheelchair, unless he had another accident besides the 1981 one I don't know about. Not that it matters.....but I am curious.
