You're fucking kidding me, right? Link: “The Price Is Right” Celebrates the 30th Anniversary of Plinko [TV Media Insights] Okay, this might be a little too much in terms of celebration. In the TPIRecaps group on LiveJournal, it's going to be funny. I might do that one, just to snark it from start to finish. It's either that, or this is one major joke.

Yep, this is one day that I will find reruns of Super Password and $100,000 Pyramid more fun to watch, in my opinion.
Seriously, what were they thinking?

This thread is for general discussion about The Price is Right, and will also be used to link to my daily recap blog (or will do so once new episodes begin airing again). Edit: Links to the TPiRecap blog may now be found here. If you remember this thread from the GSN boards, consider the same rules to apply here as they did there. Keep it clean; no unnecessary flaming of the contestants, the producers, that certain other TPiR board, or each other; and do let's try to keep the paranoia and conspiracy theories regarding models, Pricing Games, and/or the series itself to an absolute bare minimum, mmkay? Other than those rules (and the general ones for GSP), let's have at it...

Kindly explain what the new game is supposed to be on the upcoming season. I know they've called it Do the Math or something like that.
On another note - I kind of liked Credit Card. If they could bring that back and remove Check Game from the rotation altogether, that would be great. (Seriously, who writes checks these days? Plastic's the way to go.)

I don't think any info has come out regarding Do the Math...

Based on a description on an unofficial Price wiki (usual caveats), the gameplay sounds like a poor man's Most Expen$ive: Given two prizes, you must decide whether the prize on the left is greater than or less than (or perhaps equal to) the prize on the right. Of course, you should take this with a grain of salt (the size of Nebraska) until the game bows on 23 September, although some leaked pics (which I don't have access to ATM) do indicate the game is a two-prizer played at Door #2, so at least that much of the description would seem to track. And yes, people do still write and receive checks. It's a small population, but the paradigm of a "blank check" is far from dead in 2013. Credit Card (the game), OTOH, can stay dead as far as I'm concerned; Shopping Spree is virtually the same game with one less prize (and the premise admittedly inverted).

My bank didn't give me plastic - they basically shoved my request for one up my ass, and gave me checks as a consolation prize. Worst decision they could have made, really.

^ That actually looks pretty awesome. The asterisks on the Showcase podiums give it a retro factor, but they're modernized. Everything just looks like it flows. Me gusta.

I actually didn't think the Showcase podia needed to be updated just yet -- they still looked perfectly fine -- but this update looks really snazzy. The glass floor, too. I'm more than okay with this.

They all look great. Wonder if they were able to change the displays to green for DSWs.

I still wish CBS had suspended production on "The Price is Right" after the final edition hosted by Bob Barker was produced and broadcast either past editions of the program or a new game show before resuming production five years years. If the option for a new game show had been chosen and the game show were to be successful both financially and among TV viewers and listeners over the course of five years, CBS could have made it into a syndicated program before replacing it with new editions of "The Price is Right". If the new game show were to fail both financially and among audiences, CBS could have replaced it with past editions of "The Price is Right" before broadcasting new editions. If either of those options had been chosen, more folks would have been ready for all of the changes that would befall on "The Price is Right" after the retirement of Bob Barker and perceived the return of new editions as a revival the same way some folks perceived the program when it began 1972 since it was based on the program Bill Cullen hosted from 1956 to 1965 that was also called "The Price is Right" (it was the original version). And yes, people do still write and receive checks. It's a small population, but the paradigm of a "blank check" is far from dead in 2013. My bank didn't give me plastic - they basically shoved my request for one up my ass, and gave me checks as a consolation prize. Worst decision they could have made, really. There was no need for the rude language.

There was no need for the rude language. I've already talked about this in the rules. There's going to be people throwing out terms like that. There are instances in the OT board where this stuff is said. Please understand this.

Nope. Rerun. ^^; Friday's episode, however, is a make-good. At least according to my notes.
