For the record: No, I do not want to temp-ban people over comments made over the host. First and only warning.

OK, let's not talk about the host. Let's talk about the new British format. This is going to be Wordle: The Game Show and not Lingo. They could get Chuck Woolery to host, and the format would still be bad. Take a look for yourself:

If so, they must have shot something in the UK while Ru was doing Drag Race UK over there. I love British game shows, but I'm not really sold on the UK version. Maybe I need to watch more of it as some have said it's grown on them over time. This is one of those game shows that does not need to be an hour long. But I'm glad the show is coming back here.

let's hope that it is more like the Chuck version and less like the Engvill version

If this Lingo revival is anything like the Engvall version, then I think it'll suffer the same fate: one and done. Guess we'll find out in due time.

Trying to capitalize on Wordle makes sense if you own the rights to Lingo. And even if fans of GSN Lingo aren't happy with the new version, whenever we see it, there are enough Wordle players out there. If CBS can tap into that group, it matters not if the GSN loyalists follow.
I'm not excited about the new CBS version, but if Lingo can succeed, along with continued prime time editions of TPIR and LMAD holding their own, perhaps CBS will start looking at other tried and true formats for a new prime time edition.

Four teams play (two at a time). The two highest winning teams will compete against each other to win the entire winnings plus an extra $50K.

I watched it and I have to say, I thought it was pretty good. I think Rupaul did a good job as host and the gameplay was enjoyable. In the first round, each team has three 5-letter words they have to guess, just like classic Lingo and they have five attempts to get it, assuming the guess isn't invalid. If a team gives an invalid guess (their guess isn't in the dictionary or is two separate words), that turn is wasted. If it happens on the fourth try, it automatically goes to try number five for that amount of money. Teams get $5,000 added to their bank if they get it right on the first try, $2,500 on the second, $2,000 on the third, $1,500 on the fourth, and $1,000 on the fifth try. In Lingo fashion, if the first team fails to guess the word correctly after the fifth try, the other team gets a chance at the $1,000. One thing that's different is that the other team doesn't get an extra letter for help. This applies throughout the whole game. There's also no penalty if a team member gives back to back guesses.
In the next round (called Super Lingo), teams try to guess a 10 letter word with a hint. Starting money is $5,000. Teams get a choice between either a money ball or a letter ball for this round and this part is called Lucky Balls (yes, really). The money ball adds either $100, $500, or $1,000 to the team's score while a letter ball has a number from 1 to 10 on it. The number on that ball is the letter that gets revealed for the word. So if the ball has 10 on it, letter 10 gets revealed before the timer starts (each round is timed by the way). $500 gets taken off with every passing second.
In the round after that (called Lingo Battle), the teams have to decide who does 5-letter lingos and who does 6-letter lingos. Money is doubled in this round and for every guess where a new green letter (letter in the right place) isn't revealed, the other team gets a chance at guessing the word.
In the final battle between these teams, the teams are given a 12-letter word with a clue they have to guess. Starting money is $10,000 and $1,000 is taken away with every passing second. Whoever rings in first gets a chance to answer. If a team guesses wrong, the other team gets a chance to get it right. In the event of a tie, another 12-letter word must be solved. The winning team in the first half of the show moves onto the true final round (the Lingo Showdown) where they face the winners of the second half for $50,000 plus the total of the money won by both teams in the main game.
In the Lingo Showdown round, the team that banked the most money gets to decide which team plays first. Both teams have two minutes to guess between 5- and 6-letter words. These words alternate back and forth. 5-letter words are worth five points and 6-letter words are worth ten points. If a team isn't sure on a word, they can pass without penalty. The team with the most points wins the money.
The first episode was pretty good and I'm looking forward to future episodes. One negative about this version is the lack of bingo. I enjoyed that aspect of previous versions of Lingo, but now it's gone. That being said, the rest of the game more than makes up for the lack of the bingo gameplay. I know we've only seen one episode of Rupaul's version, but this version of Lingo was way more enjoyable than Bill Engvall's version in my opinion. It has better gameplay and less cringe with the sexual humor (so far at least; I'm willing to let "Lucky Balls" slide as it actually is an appropriate title for that round). I don't have much else to say.

I watched up until the start of the Lingo Battle in the first half. Choke job by the female team during that round right there, from what I heard. I didn't see that, because it seemed like the audience was told to overhype this show. Buzzerblog's Discord server didn't like everything but the gameplay.

I actually didn't know this had finally started. So I've been catching up on Paramount+ and I've been enjoying it. I do agree that the lack of bingo is sorely missed though.

Not too sure I'm a fan of the $10,000 round being the only round that really matters. Last episode was proof of that.
