Marcia Wallace, best known for her portrayals of Edna Krabappel on The Simpsons and secretary Carol Kester Bondurant on The Bob Newhart show, died yesterday. Marcia was also well known in the game show circuit; appearing on The $100,000 Pyramid, Match Game, Password Plus, and Super Password. She was 70.

R.I.P. Marcia.
She will be missed. Looks like I'll be watching some Simpsons and Match Game in her memory this weekend.

Just found out about this myself and am bummed. Strictly from her work in game shows, Marcia was always one of my favorite "second tier" celebs on Match Game (by which I mean her usual location on the panel, not a reflection of her relative status). 8^/

That name sounded familiar and growing up with game shows, I will say she will be missed.
I hate to say that The Simpsons will go on without her, but it survived Phil Hartman dying, it'll survive her.

I watched some shows in Marcia's memory today.
I watched an episode of $100K Pyramid. She almost made it.
3 Password Plus Shows. 2 Kennedy 1 Ludden. She played very well.
And 3 Match Games. A Syndicated episode and her first 74 appearance.
She was fun to watch on game shows.

If the board will forgive me for some momentary off-topicness...
This should go without saying, but since this is the Internet I'll say it anyway, just so there's no misunderstanding. Edna Krabappel is NOT the Simpsons character who's going to die in next season's opener. Showrunner Al Jean made it clear in a statement that Marcia's character will simply be retired, as was done with Troy McClure and Lionel Hutz after Phil Hartman's death, rather than killed off or recast, and the impending doom of an as-yet unidentified Springfield citizen is an entirely unrelated decision that was made long before today's news broke.

I was shocked to hear this too. Little did I know she had breast cancer the year before I was born!
She was great.

Does this mean that Catch 21 won't be airing on GSN November 1st in honor of the Marcia Wallace tribute? That's just great because I dislike having my morning routine messed up. But oh well I least I have my cartoons to watch instead. It's wonderful that GSN is having a tribute to Marcia Wallace because she was so cool and such a marvelous lady, Kelsey, P.S. Here's a interesting fact about Marcia Wallace that I learned while reading The Simpsons A Guide To Our Favorite Family which is a Simpsons book I have. On the very first episode of The Simpsons called Chestnuts Roasting On A Open Fire take a look at the end credits and you will notice Marcia Wallace's name misspelled as "Masha" Wallace

The times for this marathon are all Eastern, so Catch 21 (which airs at 2 PM Eastern) will not be affected. The shows being pre-empted are Super Password (both airings), Press Your Luck, $ale of the Century, and $25K Pyramid.
I definitely appreciated Marcia Wallace's contributions both to The Simpsons and various game shows (especially Match Game). Looking forward to the tribute.
