CASTING SMART FAMILIES [...] a member of our casting team I'm just curious -- why are you using "casting" rather than "looking for" and "contestant coordinator", respectively? "Casting", before everybody started using it in this genre, was/is usually used in relation to roles in scripted shows (sitcoms, sci-fi, docudramas, etc.) -- and what some producers did for the 1950s rigged quizzes, although obviously they didn't state that publicly. Given the push for "characters"/"caricatures"/"stereotypes" in most game shows of the past seven years ( Who's Still Standing? particularly comes to mind, in a disturbing example of grooming contestants into the perfect caricature), and given your pedigree with Cash Cab, here's hoping you guys will avoid those pitfalls. Are you the SMARTEST family you know? Is your family fun-loving, competitive and ready for prime time? Then we want to hear from you! Big kudos for not listing any requirement of "oh yeah and you have to look good too". I'm also hoping that "playing the game well" is a requirement of getting on the show proper -- too many games in the past few years or so didn't look for that because then they'd have to risk actually awarding a decent amount of money. a knowledge-based game show Also known as a "quiz", last I checked. Then again, I know a guy who pitched a quiz to the networks a few years ago and got told "Could you remove the quiz element?", so I can see why you wouldn't call a spade a spade. But yeah, it's a quiz. We're looking for families with both brains AND great personalities. Good to see you're looking for brains over looks, but why "great personalities"? And which takes priority when choosing players? In all seriousness, I wish you the best of luck in getting this game off the ground (we definitely need more of these rather than shows built around a flimsy gimmick) and hope you'll go with a simple, straightforward title like Smart Families rather than something inane like My Family's Smarter Than Yours!

Thanks for that incredible breakdown of our post. I definitely agree about some of the language. "Casting" might not be the correct word for something like this. This is definitely the kind of show where the contestants (families) will really need to know their stuff. Fingers crossed that the run through's go well and the show gets picked up! If you know of any families in the tri-state area that may be interested, please have them email me at kevin.mckeever@liontv.us
Thanks,

Just to clarify - when he says "tri-state", he means New York/New Jersey/Connecticut near NYC (for those who don't know).

Hey phimat37!
I found it through Google while doing a search for game show message boards. Seemed like the perfect site to post the information. If you know of any additional message boards/websites where I can post the information, please let me know. I really appreciate it! We're looking to film a presentation/pilot at the end of this month.
Thanks for your time and thanks for letting me post here on your board!
Kevin
