The first episode linked to seems like it isn't too far away, because IIRC six or seven of the eight cars seen on yesterday's Buzzr episodes are in the bonus round on that episode. The first episode also has an edit in the beginning, editing out Alex's opening speech. Perhaps the opening speech was about the home contest that they had in May 1988. The rerun airdate for that is June 14, 1993 or later, as a snippet for a promo for John and Leeza pops up there, and it bowed on that date. Parts of two early June 1988 episodes with Eric Ogren as a contestant are on YouTube and the recent home sweepstakes is mentioned there. The second episode linked appears to have a rerun airdate of 8/2/1993, as the Laugh-In special aired that night, as per Tvtango

Also, #0265 (May 30, 1988) is the first to have Alex entering from the first car instead of the eighth, which he would do for the rest of the run of the show, due to his knee operation in Fall 1987.

The first episode Vahan linked to earlier today will air Friday at 1:30PM EST, as the cars in the bonus rounds on today's 1:30PM EST airing are the same as in the linked episode. Airdate of the linked episode is APril 29, 1988. Alex plugged the May 1988 home contest at the top of today's 1:30PM airing, and the 1993 NBC rerun linked to edited out Alex's opening for presumably that reason.

Zach, not quite. The program taped anywhere from 2-5 weeks of shows in anywhere from 2-5 consecutive days. The two cars in the middle were always interchangeable. The notes I was sent didn't specify which two cars in the middle were for the week of April 25, 1988. Now I know. They were the Plymouth Sundance and Nissan Stanza; the ones for the week of May 09, 1988 were the Ford Taurus and Nissan Stanza.

The second car game on today's 1:30PM episode from 4/25/1988 had 35 seconds on the clock. The first car game on the 4/29/1988 episode had 70 seconds on the clock, meaning there were seven losses before that latter car round.

The puzzle in the second game on the second episode was used on the cover of the 1990 NES game from GameTek. It used the 1988-1990 2 out of 3 format.

And I was correct that the episode with two car wins back-to-back was from the week of May 09, 1988.

And there were seven bonus rounds without a win prior to the first bonus win on that episodes as the first contestant had 70 seconds on the clock It will be seen on 1/29 1:30PM, 1/30, or 1/31 1PM, unless its the 5/12 episode, which is being skipped

Episode #0246 next Monday is when we'll start checking. The two episodes on Eric Orgen's channel will be coming to Buzzr on February 12 and 13.

johnnyo I know you're into statistics. Here's the total number of times Game 2 was interrupted and not interrupted with the original format. I didn't include the Kids' Week, because it was new players in each game, and I'm not sure about the skipped show #0178. Interrupted: 127 Not interrupted: 77 N/A: 5 Not sure: 1

splinkynip I noticed when looking at the notes I received a while back, the lineup of cars for the Summer Fun on Wheels Week from July 05-08; 11, 1988 (July 04 was a preemption) is the same as the one from the week of August 02-05; 08. On July 12-15; 18 and July 19-22; 25, the 3rd car was the Honda Accord, but on July 26-29; August 01, August 02-05; 08, and July 05-08; 11, it was a Mitsubishi Mighty Max. The Summer Fun on Wheels Week, as well as the weeks of July 26 and August 02, all had the Volkswagen Cabriolet and Pontiac Sunbird Convertible as the 4th and 5th cars respectively . Could it be that the Summer Fun on Wheels Week was taped out of order from the other four with a similar lineup? That makes sense to me. Why would they introduce a new format on the first week of July, then temporarily go back to two strikes for the next four weeks? Not to mention the later years had instances where NBC would interrupt the regularly-aired taping sessions of episodes to show a special week (the 1990 Tournament of Champions for example). Also, I just remembered something: The CBS run of Card Sharks, which also aired at 10:30 a.m. (and same production company, obviously), introduced a new car game on the first week of July 1988. Same week as the CBS run of Family Feud. But on the next week, a Young People's Special was shown with the old car game. Apparently, it was taped out of order. So based on my observations, chances are this applied to Classic Concentration in July 1988, too.

That Summer Fun on Wheels week had two new college-aged contestants each day. Looks like to me they tried out the format, then after completing the five taping days of five weeks of shows, they decided to switch to that format. If it taped out of order, we'll find out soon when Buzzr reruns them.

What's better than four or five cars whose names begin with C? SIX of them!
That's what I just saw today.
