Another legendary voice has been silenced forever. Wink Martindale posted on Facebook that Charlie Tuna, the announcer for Scrabble, has passed away at age 71. He had hosted the radio show Charlie Tuna:The 70s for the last many years, and may have prematurely ended its run. Plus, he even filled in for Casey Kasem on American Top 20 in October 2005 and August 2006 respectively. Story HERE.R.I.P. Mr. Tuna. Yet again, another sad loss in the world of game shows.

He will be missed. His announcing voice is unmistakable.

Charlie Tuna also served as host of the radio show National Music Survey from either 1986 or 1987 to 1988, after the show changed to an adult contemporary format when the original host, Dick Clark, stepped down. This means the original two hosts of National Music Survey are no longer with us.
I am not certain as to how many announcing legends remain. Johnny Gilbert is still around, and still announcing in his 90s. Bob Hilton technically doesn't count, as he did mainly fill-ins. Don Morrow, the announcer on $ale of the Century during its final year on NBC, is still around, but I don't know if he counts as a legend.
