Courtesy of an extremely generous person, we now have for the first time publicly an episode of the 1974-76 run of High Rollers. Check out that amazing afro on Alex Trebek. Can't wait to watch this later!!

Didn't Jamie Locklin have a clip of Alex with a tuxedo? I think I recall someone saying that it was possibly from the weekly syndie version (w/Elaine Stewart instead of Ruta Lee). I doubt it is the one from Andy Warhol's collection (Wikipedia incorrectly says the episode Warhol recorded is the one in the OP of this thread).
I also know there was an early 80's awards show, where they featured a clip from the final cycle of the original High Rollers (when they had the "Face Lifters" format). But I totally forgot what awards show it was.

Great to finally see an episode of the original run...and hello again, Spiegel catalog. I also know there was an early 80's awards show, where they featured a clip from the final cycle of the original High Rollers (when they had the "Face Lifters" format). But I totally forgot what awards show it was. The 1983 Daytime Emmy Awards. It was part of a montage of game show clips, followed by a rather odd "Game Show U" song by various emcees.

I wonder how they were able to get a hold of that clip? Either the episode was sent to the Emmys years ago for their consideration, or Heatter-Quigley wanted to hold on to the tapes at first, but then it became too much for them due to storage space, and the size of the tapes.

Can't wait to watch this when I have some free time. I watched an episode of this at the Paley Center but that was over a decade ago so I've forgotten all of it; so basically this is gonna be new to me even if it isn't. Work getting super busy at the worst possible time right now!!

Great find, thanks for posting. It was great to finally see this version of HR. I can tell why they went with the column format in later versions though, the "attach a prize to a number" format seemed to encourage knocking off all the small numbers first, which ended the rounds pretty quickly.

A question. Is the syndie version still in existence? Wish someone would air it.
If i were at Buzzr, when Alex got sick. I'd have seen about leasing it!

They'd have to go through MGM to lease episodes of it. Adam Nedeff reported recently that the 1974-76 NBC run of High Rollers still exists. The weekly 1975-76 syndicated version and the 1978-80 NBC version's statuses are unknown.

I wish Freevee or Prime would show Squares and HR.
