One of the editions of the program broadcast by the Game Show Network today had the mother of one its producers (Mark Goodson) in its audience (her name was Fannie Goodson).

Pardon my ignorance but I really haven't watched GSN much in a year or longer. I thought the latest MG lease from GSN was the syndicated version and I always thought the syndicated version was the one without the year in the title. I have the day off from work and am watching now and it's 79. New lease? Was 79 syndicated? Or does whatever their lease is now consist of the end of CBS/start of syndicated?

Someone at the Game Show Network had decided on having the network version ("Match Game 73" through "Match Game 79") take the place of the syndicated daytime version in their regular programming plans. (I do not believe the network version was ever syndicated)

Got a question. I was informed on Facebook that when GSN leases classic shows from Fremantle's library, the first lease has the most episodes, and subsequent leases have fewer episodes. This doesn't apply to Press Your Luck and Sale of the Century (though the latter currently doesn't air). I know the first limited lease of Match Game had 400 episodes, then the second one had roughly 350, but I'd like to know how many episodes are in the current lease of Match Game?

Another thing I want to point out is the Tie Breaker. Sometimes they say they don't have enough time and they can't do their "regular" tiebreaker so they do "Sudden Death". I think it's a bunch of crap that the show claims they don't have enough time for their regular tiebreaker. Why? Because, if they can do their regular tiebreaker sometimes, then why can't they do it all the time? I know shows allot so much time, but something is messed up about not having enough time for the regular tiebreaker. Actually the CBS run had less commercial time than the syndie runs and the network had the advantage of broadcasting the show everywhere on the same day (minus the few stations that would do stuff like run it one day behind). The sudden death tie breaker where the contestants write their answers was sometimes used to help keep the shows from straddling too much. As for the reasoning behind that, this was the early days of syndication before satellite feeds of television shows were beamed to stations and every market got the same episodes week after week in the same order. When syndicated Match Game was running, it was with the old method of first-run syndication where videotapes of TV shows are transported from station to station. The same show airs everywhere in general but as a result of this, what's seen in various markets would be different episodes. Atlanta will see one week of shows while Chicago can see another and Boston might see a different batch and so on. Doing stuff like changing the tie breaker round to make it shorter and editing out the mingling between Gene and the panelists in between the questions being asked and the answers being shown were ways to make the episodes tighter and run that much shorter so everyone got to see one full week with the same panel without really beneficial game action being interrupted on a Friday or an episode starting being half-finished on the beginning of a Monday, and so that the PM episodes wouldn't straddle at all since those episodes had to be self-contained. The old tie breaker could definitely take some time. Especially if both tie questions were played. To explain more succinctly, the syndicated shows never straddled when a celebrity panel was "expiring". Whereas MGPM was a self-contained "fixed format" show for each episode , MG syndicated was "fixed format" across each 5 episode arc that encompassed one day's taping with a single celebrity panel. Over the 5 shows, 6 contestants would appear, divided into 3 groups of two, and each group playing two games. If the first group tied, they would always play the regular tie breaker, as there was plenty of time to accommodate the second and third groups in the remaining shows. The abbreviated tie breaker was used most often with the third group, which were always timed to complete their second game on the fifth show. The abbreviated tie breaker assured that a winner could be declared and a bonus round conducted before the end of the fifth show. This way no contestant would ever need to return for a second day of taping. (Once, during the CBS years, a contestant forfeited her place b/c she could not attend the next taping day.) If you pay close attention, sometimes during the fifth show, if the the third group's second game is "ahead of schedule", you will GR and the panel goof around more as "filler", so that the third group's second bonus round concludes the show as planned.

That makes a lot of sense, as opposed to the (BLANKS) that the stars would give for answers on the Friday episode.

Me likey both sets of news! As for 100K Pyramid, I hope they get a higher quality of celebs and contestants than GSN Pyramid recently had. That was painful to watch.

Any word on when the PM and Daily Syndicated versions are coming to Buzzr? I always liked those better than the CBS version.

After learning the news that ABC is reviving Match Game, I guess it's safe to say the version from the Great White North is no longer in production.Regarding the part in bold: I want to see confirmation about this from somewhere that's not your opinion.

I take back what I said, as I realized there have been cases of two international versions of games shows airing simultaneously. From 1983 until 1989, $ale of the Century did have versions producing first-runs in at least two countries - the U.S. and Australia. I don't know for a fact if Match Game was still producing new episodes, but when I Googled for an article using the key words "Match Game third season Canada Comedy Network", I found no results, unless I missed something. If no results were found, I would assume it was out of production after Season 2. The most recent article I saw proving a renewal for Canadian Match Game dated back to 2013, and I added "2014" and beyond in the search engine - nothing in terms of articles. The series is airing on Comedy Network in Canada, but I think it's indefinite reruns, at least for now, If no article about a third season prevailed since 2013, I would be surprised if a third season was to occur eventually.

Well, I saw an ad for the upcoming ABC revival of MG, and I could tell a couple good things about it so far. - They used the classic theme music in the ad, so it looks likely they will be using it for the new version.
- The title graphic they used for the ad was the same version they used in the later version of the version we loved, so that's a good thing...
Other than that, we have no footage, it was just Alec Baldwin talking about the concept of the show, so to speak.

The reason there's no footage is because they haven't taped any episodes yet. The tapings aren't until...I think June 12? The title graphic they used for the ad was the same version they used in the later version of the version we loved, so that's a good thing... Not necessarily. They used a yellow variant for the pitchfilm that was shot for the 1998-99 revival, and that series ended up using a much blander-looking logo. (For those who don't know, the logo used in ABC's promos is a black variant of the one used from 1978-82.)

Well, we now have a video (thanks to Buzzerblog) of the new version, and it's one of the possible questions used. No answers given, but I'm putting it under BLANK just in case. Any comments?

Sounds like the questions will be of the shock variety ala Harvey Feud. At least I still have hope for $100,000 Pyramid, if the contestants and celebs are competent.
