I've always been a big fan of The Dating Game and am kinda surprised that it hasn't made a comeback with a new version in recent times. Heck I'd even be down to see it make a return on GSN or Buzzr. I imagine music licensing issues hold the ABC daytime/primetime version back from being seen which bums me out because that's the version I'm most interested in. I'd even take if they only aired celebrity specific episodes but I'd love to see more general civilian episodes too.
Also the real reason I started this thread was because I just found out Nipsey Russell appeared on The Dating Game and I'm honestly surprised that it never turned up on GSN. Neat.

What year was Nipsey on, and where did you find that out?

What year was Nipsey on, and where did you find that out? Not a clue what year sadly. He was featured in a image slideshow leading into a commercial break on an April, 1971 episode I just watched. It makes me wonder how many more cool celebrity episodes are out there that we just don't know about. I'd love to see Paul Lynde and Fannie Flagg's episodes.

Not much chance of seeing 20th century game show episodes owned by Sony again on TV with the possible exception of 80s Pyramid. Music clearances kept a fair amount of Barris shows from being seen much on GSN, including some GOng SHow episodes(they only got clearances for a fraction of the episodes), late 70s syndicated Dating Game, and the 70s Treasure Hunt.

I've always been a big fan of The Dating Game and am kinda surprised that it hasn't made a comeback with a new version in recent times. This show in 2018 would fit in well with the mature-rated television programs that air on daytime TV. Not joking. Between the fakeness of your Maury Povich-like talk shows and syndicated Feud airings (remember, Feud was brought up in a thread, with a screencap provided), you could definitely get something like Dating Game in. I'm sure nobody will keep this clean, though.

That's the reason why, to be honest. The 1978-80 run had some risque answers that would even be a little much for today. Which is why it would be perfect for today, in that "risque enough that we'll get complaints but we air it anyway" is M.O. for a lot of TV now.

GAME TV in Canada reran the pitiful Brad Sherwood version earlier this year. It's not there anymore.
I have to say personally I've warmed up to the old version. It's always fun to watch.

I'm listening to an AT40 airing from 1977, and someone had wrote in asking if a game show theme had ever been part of a top-40. Before he introduced the #19 song from the week of April 30 (The Things We Do For Love by 10cc), he said that... Yes, a game show theme had been ranked.
Spanish Flea, the theme for the Dating Game, was ranked in the 1960s.
The things you learn when you're listening to SiriusXM.

Spanish Flea, the theme for the Dating Game, was ranked in the 1960s. Herb Alpert rules. Herb also has what I believe is the last ever instrumental song to hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song was later used during the Luke/Laura saga of General Hospital, which helped boost its popularity with Luke and Laura on General Hospital being one of the hottest things in daytime at the time.

Chariots of Fire in 1982 and Miami Vice theme in 1985 were instrumentals that hit #1 after Rise did.

What year was Nipsey on, and where did you find that out? Vahan, Nipsey appeared on the July 7, 1967 daytime episode and was seen in clips during As Seen On Season 2. IIRC, remember when you complained about the "film look" in their programming, like Pyramid, well we can go farther back, As Seen On Season 1 had a "film look" as far as I can remember. As Seen On Season 2 had a bit called "Poem of the Day".
