Here's a VERY RARE clip -- indeed, quite possibly the only surviving footage -- of the Joe Garagiola version of $ale of the ¢entury, from around 1973 (during the married-couple format towards the end of its run). This evidently comes from a 1982 pitchfilm for the Jim Perry version, and as such features a narrator explaining $ale's previous American history. Not much gameplay evident in this clip, but hey -- it's the original $ale! Beggars can't be choosers... As complete as it's gonna get

quite possibly the only surviving footage Maybe the only surviving footage that doesn't exist in private collections. There are definitely episodes of this available at UCLA and possibly the Los Angeles Paley Center. That doesn't account for episodes that exist in private collections, but I feel like the syndicated run has to exist. Most syndicated runs of shows from the 60's/70's do exist so it would make sense that the clip in the pitch film came from one of those episodes. Of course, this also gives us the sad reality that if they do exist, GSN just hasn't had interest ever in obtaining them.
