How did shows catch up when there were preemptions, like the Iran Contra in 87 or maybe the Iran hostage thing in 80. For example, if Password was preempted in 88 for coverage on the explosion of Flight Pan Am 103, which exploded over Lockerbie 103, just moments after takeoff. Would they back up till they caught up, or would they simply tape a extra show?

I've heard people say Wheel was preempted in December 1988 due to Lockerbie. How did this happen? Wheel aired on the east coast at 11:00 a.m., and Lockerbie happened at around 7:00 p.m.

Super Password did a few tapings with four episodes with the same celebs due to previous preemptions to get back to Mon-Fri schedule. They did a couple of weeks near the end of the run with the celebs airing for six days to get back to Mon-Fri for the final weeks.

I wonder how Price handles it these days. I'm guessing a preempted ep gets put into the summer reruns.

Save for this season, yes, they would extend the season finale by one day when an episode gets preempted, or air it sometime in the SUmmer. The season finale is most likely going to be June 1st this year thanks to COVID.

aaaa where did it come from that Wheel of Fortune was preempted by Lockerbie in December 1988, when it fact, the disaster happened in the UK at 7:00 p.m., and it was a five hour difference between the east coast and the UK?

Pretty sure that it occurred during one of the soaps. At the time, KYW Philly, when it was NBC, was airing Scrabble and Daytime Wheel from 3-4PM EST.

I'm pretty sure i was watching the soap Santa Barbara, and the NBC station in my area was pretty much tied to the NBC schedule then. I wonder why you got Scrabble and Daytime Wheel from 3-4PM EST instead of the intended slots?

I wonder why you got Scrabble and Daytime Wheel from 3-4PM EST instead of the intended slots? KYW aired Santa Barbara at 9AM EST on a one day delay for most of its run, and from Jan 1985-Jan 1990 aired an hour of game shows in the 3-4PM EST block. They aired Hour Magazine at 11AM in the mid-late 80s instead of the NBC network shows.
