$1,000,000 Chance of a Lifetime was a 1980s game show where married couples could win $1,000,000. The letters that were lit (except for one letter which was called "The Stinger") were in the puzzle. Any letter can be the Stinger though letters Q, X and Z were never stingers, plus the star (which represented numbers and punctuation marks) was also never a stinger. Why were the letters Q, X, and Z never stingers but letters such as J and V were stingers during several occasions?

One of the puzzles in the Chance of a Lifetime home game had the Star button as the stinger.

One of the puzzles in the Chance of a Lifetime home game had the Star button as the stinger. But not on the TV show. The letter J has on several occasions despite the fact that it's an uncommon letter but numerous first names and surnames began with the letter J like John, Jane, Jason, Jennifer, Johnson, Jones and Jackson.

Q, X and Z are literally the rarest letters in the alphabet. It would make zero sense for them to be the stinger for the same reason people don't say something like "I'll take a Z" when the puzzle on Wheel of Fortune is completely blank. It's too obvious someone's messing around.
