Gilbert Gottfried, after a long illness, died today, April 12, 2022 at age 67, according to TMZ.
Gilbert Jeremy Gottfried was born on February 28, 1955 in New York City, New York and raised in the Brooklyn neighborhood of NYC; as a struggling comic, Gilbert was hired by Jean Doumanian to appear as a regular on "Saturday Night Live" during the Fall 1980 TV season, after creator Lorne Michael initially left the show (he would eventually return to "SNL" in 1985).
After his "SNL" stint, Gilbert had a successful Showbiz career on both the comedy stage and in film/TV shows such as guest appearances on "Night Court" and "The Cosby Show" as well as his notable role as Iago in "Disney's Aladdin."
As far as TV Game Shows went, he was a semi-regular on the Tom Bergeron '90s version of "Hollywood Squares."
Earlier this year, after the loss of life-long friend Bob Saget, Gilbert was one of several comedians who remembered Bob on CNN.
And now this.
On a personal note, I didn't even know Gilbert was sick, but regardless, in honor of his memory, here's how his REAL voice sounded, according to Howard Stern: www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdbElWMnkyY

I think bye bye isn't appropriate, it's like celebrity bucket kickers Correct. Neither are really okay. Let's just go with "RIP" and leave it at that.

Never knew about the Pyramid appearance, but sure enough, Game Show Temple uploaded it about an hour ago www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpnGq3cZMbUWhen I was a kid, I just thought of Gilbert as a strange guy who showed up on "Hollywood Squares" all the time. Over the years, he's really grown on me, though. Later I found out about him voicing Iago in Aladdin, and just a few months ago I stumbled across a documentary called "Can We Take a Joke?" on Amazon Prime that Gilbert appeared in. And of course, who can forget "YOU FOOL?" Rest in Peace, Gilbert.

I would have expected Gilbert to have appeared on Alec Baldwin's or even Michael Burger's "Match Game". Surprising that he didn't.
As for other game show appearances, he appeared on "The Masked Singer" earlier this year. That was his last television appearance before his death. GameTV in Canada presently airs the UK version of such series, so I doubt he was on that version.
I'm quite amazed that his entertainment career goes as far back as 1982, as per IMDB. Surprising I never heard of him until Bergeron's "Hollywood Squares".

Later I found out about him voicing Iago in Aladdin... Not the only Disney-related production he's been a part of. He was Hare's bully Mike McNasty in the Adventures in Wonderland episode entitled Pie Noon. It's a widely-popular episode with those who grew up with a real-person Alice in Wonderland in the 90s.

I also remember hearing Gottfried when he did USA Up All Night. Wasn't he on Pictionary by any chance? Anyhow, regarding Pyramid, who was the female celebrity when he gave a list of shows that had Dick Clark in it but his contestant partner still didn't guess it?

The Michael Burger MG ran the first year of the Bergeron HS, so maybe that's why he wasn't on Burger MG, though Ben Stein did both shows that season. The first time a lot of people would have come across Gilbert might have been the season three Cosby Show episode where Cliff and Theo are negotiating with a car salesman(played by Sinbad) and Cliff doesn't mention he's a doctor and mentions he's a working class guy and dresses down. Gilbert's character sees Cliff in there and says "Dr. Huxtable" and that he heard Clair was made a partner in her law firm. Cliff and Theo still get a deal on the car,
