In a recent Facebook post - www.facebook.com/100064195087325/posts/pfbid0UKYVAK9gx72htZ6zTpswi7qXQWnYeES75vo2PCqGiztcrVhy9VjPkPc5c9UGzcvil/?mibextid=Nif5oz - game show fan and author Adam Nedeff posted a question which most of us have come across at one time in our lives - is "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" a game show or not? This is what resulted in one game show fan completely losing his temper with me when I tried to point out the "game show" concept some years back. I don't know if it's how different countries see the concept of a "game show" or whatever, but my opinion is it's more an "entertainment" game show rather than a "prize-based" game show (if the comments on Adam's post are anything to go by). For example when you have news-based game shows such as "Mock the Week" or "Have you been paying attention?", those shows are more on the entertainment and news content than anything. Case in point is the UK Gameshows website listing "Whose Line..." - ukgameshows.com/ukgs/Whose_Line_is_it_Anyway%3F

Not a game show. It's listed as one in EOTVGS for whatever reason, but so was Love Connection.

Not a game show.
"Whose Line" tapes an entire season in 2-3 weeks; with some episodes using leftover footage from a session, whereas a Game Show is the opposite.

Its about as much of a game show as any other BBC Radio comedy panel show*, not really one at all.
*Yes that's how Whose Line started as.
