Does anyone know why there were so many repeats of NBC daytime shows (Wheel, Card Sharks, Password Plus) during July and August 1981? That seems not to have happened in any other year or on any other network at that time.

I haven't a clue, either. For Blockbusters, seeing how there were reruns from August 17-27, 1981, it's possible they reran all nine episodes from John Hatten's original run (December 1-11, 1980).

The last week at least of Las Vegas Gambit in November 1981 was reruns, also. Don't know if Las Vegas Gambit was in reruns in SUmmer 1981 or not.

There was a 13-week writers strike that started in April 1981, so that might explain it.

This might be a stupid question, but do game shows have writers? Or would everyone else just strike in solidarity?

Q&A shows have writers, and in 1981 that meant Las Vegas Gambit, Tic, Joker, Blockbusters, and Bullseye. Password Plus had people writing and researching the puzzles, including Chris Clementson at one time. Don't know if game show writers would have been involved in a strike or not along with others at the time.

I completely forgot that Temptation was affected by the 2007-2008 strike. Sorry about that, pyramidfan.

I wonder if the strike in 1981 impacted the ratings for "Card Sharks", "Blockbusters" and "Password Plus" because of many weeks of reruns, and resulted in their demises in the months following the strike? If so, that could explain the increase in sitcom reruns during April 1982, until the day "Sale of the Century" launched in January 1983. "Wheel of Fortune" was the only survivor of the strike, and months after the strike was settled, Chuck Woolery was gone, and Pat Sajak started his run that has now lasted 40+ years (NBC and syndicated combined).
"The Price is Right", luckily, wasn't affected, as no writers were needed for the show's concept, plus they would have been in reruns anyway, strike or no strike. But was there a delay in launching Season 10 of TPIR, and if there was, the strike could be the reason.

Card Sharks was airing at Noon in 1981 and up against Feud on ABC, and Feud won that time slot(where the shows aired at Noon EST or if they aired at all). Note that Blockbusters and Battlestars were replaced by Chips reruns, with Texas moving from 3PM to 11AM EST with the Chips reruns airing at 3PM. Password PLus was replaced by Search for Tomorrow. Las Vegas Gambit was replaced by the Regis Philbin Show, and that was replaced a few months later by Diff'Rent Strokes reruns. TPIR's 10th season started on 9/7, and the syndicated shows new seasons in Fall 1981 all started in September. Did ABC Feud go into reruns in Summer 1981?

And Blockbusters couldn't have been in THAT much trouble, if its only competition was daytime reruns of the Alice sitcom on CBS.
ABC's Daytime programming didn't typically begin until 11:00 a.m.

aaaa , ABC Feud didn't go into reruns in the Summer of 1981. Except for The Price Is Right, the summer reruns of 1981 were relegated to NBC.

There seems to be conflicting information about the week of July 13th when it comes to daytime Wheel. The original claim was that they repeated the Teen Week from the week of April 13th. Recently the Wheel Wiki changed it to say that it was Second Honeymoon Week, which previously was stated to be the week of July 20th.
