Definition is a Canadian game show that ran for 15 seasons from the mid-1970s to the late-1980s, producing just under 2,000 total episodes. It was primarily hosted by the late great Jim Perry. I did a version of this on NGC years ago and I'd like to revive it here if anyone is interested in playing it.
The game holds similarities to both Hangman and Wheel of Fortune in that it presents word puzzles to solve. The "clues" or definitions come in the form of humorous puns. Here's an example:
Definition: What the opera-singing fisherman did. Solution: He hit the high C.
As they did on the television show for most of its run, we will play best two-out-of-three wins the match and becomes defending champion. The idea being that you first give a letter away that you think is not in the puzzle, then take a letter that is in the puzzle. If successful, you can take a guess at what you think the solution is. You lose your turn if you give a letter away that is in the puzzle (resulting in a free guess for your opponent), or if you take a letter that isn't in the puzzle or if you guess incorrectly at the solution. We go back and forth like this between the two players until the definition is solved.
Game 1 is worth $1,000 for solving it. Game 2 is worth $2,000. Game 3, if necessary, is worth $3,000. In each game, the player solving it also earns a bonus of $100 for every uncovered letter that remained when it was solved. The champion plays the Bonus Definition which could pay off more than $10,000.
There will be a 48-hour timer in play with this. If you do not respond within 48 hours and you have not indicated that you are unavailable by posting something in the Departure thread, that will be considered as "your time is up" and you lose your turn.
Anyone down for this? I need two players please. The first to sign up will start us off.

Thanks James.
Yeah, in my case, I didn't get kicked out, I got tired of some of the BS that was going on and I left on my own.
Once we find an opponent for James, we'll get underway.

Dave Devall: "Definition: Scotch-taped parcel. Solution? No strings attached! (audience groans)
And our solution to fun with puns is Definition! (audience begins continuous applause)
And now, here's the host of our show, Glen Brown!"
Thank you ladies and gentlemen and please keep that applause going for our legendary Canadian announcer and meteorologist Dave Devall! (audience continues applauding)
For those unfamiliar with Dave, he of course was the original announcer on this show when it first appeared on Canadian television back in the 1970s with the late great Jim Perry as host. Dave also at one point held the Guinness World Record for longest career as a weather forecaster, holding that position for more than 48 years! We are thrilled to have him here as our announcer as well!
We are also thrilled to have you with us for our first episode on Game Show Paradise! (audience applauds)
Since this is our first show, we have two challengers today, one of which will become our first champion and play our Bonus Definition which could pay off over $10,000! (audience applauds)
Let's meet our players today, beginning with this man to my right, let's welcome James Greek! (audience applauds)
James, it says here that one of your dream jobs would be to be a DJ for a classic hits 70s/80s station. Tell us about that and a bit more about yourself if you would please.

Well I am single and I work at a local autism clinic as custodian and I love 70s/80s music and I hope to win money to attend broadcasting school on definition

That sounds like a rewarding job you have there James and if you won enough money on our show today to start your broadcasting career, that would be wonderful, so I wish you luck with that!
Your opponent over here on my left is Greg Palmer! (audience applauds)
Greg, it says here that you are an aspiring writer! That sounds interesting, are there specific types of stories you prefer writing, such as fiction vs. non-fiction? Tell us a bit about that and anything else you'd like to share about yourself please.

I prefer fiction, as there is more imagination involved.
Oh, excuse me. My name is Greg Palmer, and I live in Elon, NC. I am an aspiring writer, but in the meantime, I mostly do housework and exercise. Great to be here, Glen.

Great to have you with us Greg and best of luck to you as well.
Gentlemen, we play best two-out-of-three wins the match and becomes our first champion. The object of our game is to play give and take with a letter puzzle that conceals the solution to our definition.
The idea being you give away a letter you think is not in the puzzle and assuming you're right about that, you then take a letter that you think is in the puzzle. If you're right about that as well, that letter will illuminate however many times it appears in the puzzle and then you can take a guess as to what the solution is.
Now, if the letter you gave away is actually in the puzzle, you lose your turn, we light up that letter and then your opponent gets a free guess at the solution before taking his next turn. Also, if you get to the point where you're taking a letter but that letter is not in the puzzle, your turn ends there without being able to guess at the solution.
We go back and forth like this until one of you comes up with the solution to the definition.
Any questions before we proceed, gents?
