I always enjoyed the hosting of Alex Trebek before he got pigeonholed with Jeopardy! -- he was a funny host and always kept the ball rolling.

My #1 choice? Peter Tomarken. He really enjoyed hosting any game show he hosted, whether it be Hit Man, Press Your Luck, or any other show he hosted. Unlike Richard Dawson and Bob Eubanks, he never showed any emotion on any finales he hosted, and he went out in high spirits when those shows went off the air. Of course, with Press Your Luck's finale, it went out a normal episode because, according to a former Press Your Luck staffer on Facebook, he stated that the producers didn't know the end was coming until the end of the last taping, likely taped in August 1986. One user from the GSN boards did send me a PM on the last version of the GSN boards to share with me a brief article from a publication announcing Press Your Luck's cancellation from back in August 1986.
Tom Kennedy is a very close second in my books. He never closed off his shows with emotion, and was very happy and always showed energy and high spirits when he hosted shows such as Body Language, Password Plus, etc.

Tom Kennedy is a very close second in my books. He never closed off his shows with emotion, and was very happy and always showed energy and high spirits when he hosted shows such as Body Language, Password Plus, etc. I fail to see why this is worthy of criticism. Richard Dawson hosted Feud for 9 years; that's a pretty long time in show business and even with things such as backstage conflict with Howard Felsher and Mark Goodson, it was easily the biggest and most significant part of his career. Not to mention, a lot of times in other instances when you're working on a TV show, especially if you're on for a significant period of time like Bob Eubanks was with Newlywed Game and Card Sharks, you become friendly with your crew members, co-stars, etc. It's like a family on a lot of sets. I would imagine that saying goodbye in general to that and the general state of familiarity and a genuinely good stage of your life/career is hard. Game show hosts shouldn't have an exception to this IMO. Basically, some handle saying goodbye to particular parts of their careers differently than others. Don't see how either way it should count as a detriment.

My other favorite game show host is Chuck Woolery because he's perfect and smart and has a talent for game show hosting that other game show hosts do have and that personality is funny. Mom and I used to watch Love Connection just to see Chuck Woolery host and his sense of humor really shines on game shows, Kelsey

I'll narrow my favorites down to three since some are listing more than one: Bill Cullen, Gene Rayburn, Alex Trebek.
