Mattel has an amazing Barbie doll series called I Can Be and it features Barbie dolls in different careers such as Actress Chef Teacher News Anchor Doctor and many more careers are featured in the series too. And I would love it if they created an I Can Be a Game Show Host Barbie to add to the line because I think it would be a wonderful doll and career to add to Barbie's career list. As a Barbie doll collector I have never seen a Barbie doll dressed as a game show host in my life, Would you buy an I Can Be a Game Show Host Barbie doll and do you think it would be a cute doll?, Kelsey

I have to say I doubt sincerely that will happen, and I'll give you two reasons why:
1. even now with a handful of female game show hosts (Brooke Burns, Meredith Vieira, etc.) most game show hosts are still guys and it's not even close. Right now you're not seeing too many female hosts, you're actually seeing more black guys as game show hosts than women.
2. People like making Barbie into the really awesome and prestigious jobs (doctor, actress, etc.) are made for little girls to have ambitions. Game show hosts are a bit less than prestigious. They're certainly a better job than something like, say, call girl, bum or shoe salesman, but still, Barbie is meant for little girls to think they can do anything. A six-year old girl that says she's "going to be a game show host" might be a bit of an underachiever.
Just my thoughts on it.

That is not to say that Anne Robinson is mean. She is just one of the most popular female game show hosts ever.

I seem to remember, back around the mid- to late-'80s, there was in fact a game show-themed Barbie doll and playset. This would have been concurrent with the Wheel of Fortune craze, so you get no prizes for guessing exactly who Barbie was intentionally designed to resemble.
I forget exactly what it was called, but I do see the toys pop up on eBay every so often.

Vanna White does much less than Anne Robinson, that's for sure!

Of all the women in the world of game shows, Vanna White always struck me as the one that I don't get the most for her sense of appeal.
She even appeared in a movie in the late '80s that was considered one of the worst movies of all time. She was supposed to play the Goddess of Love, turned out that movie was an absolute shitstorm.

I'm moving this thread to the appropriate part of the board.

I do believe the Barbie game show playset you are referring to was the Barbie Key To Success game from 1988 and it was a cool playset and I've seen it many times in collector books and it's very collectible if you can find it intact. I never knew that there was a game show host Barbie doll and a game show playset for Barbie too, Kelsey

Crimeny, they did that?
It's so fictitious!
