I figure that this is a necessary thread. Just in case you all run into a troll again, you don't have to worry about us "not doing our job".
Here is what you need to do when you want to ignore a user:
Go to the member's profile. Click on their name in the mini-profile, and you will be taken to the full thing. On the page, you will find a gear at the far right hand corner of the profile. Click on that.
There are two options that you'll see when you click on that gear. (See the screenshot from another site.)
The first option is to "block" the user in question. This is also called "ignore". Click that option.
Now that you've clicked that, I can't remember how you can further edit the options of blockage. If a box doesn't pop up, go to your profile and edit it. Under Privacy, scroll to the very bottom. (It may also go straight to the Privacy tab.) There, you will find all of the members that you've blocked on the boards. There are four options to choose from. You can select up to all four of them. The options are:
Hide this member's posts. (Will allow you to see the posts if you choose to. They are hidden.)
Do not let this member start new conversations with me. (No PMs will be sent from that user.)
Do not let this member follow me or my activities. (They can't add you to your friends list.)
Block notifications from this member. (You can't see if they tagged you or quoted you in their posts.)
If you really don't like the person in question, you can choose all four options. I don't blame you if you do.
So the next time that you try to complain about a member, follow these steps. Your sanity (and this thread) will thank you. If you don't, I'm going to point you to this thread.
Thank you for your cooperation.
