Now accepting the award for perhaps the most bizarre, convoluted lottery game show ever presented on American television is this long-lost product of the Bicentennial Year: Super Shot, an Illinois State Lottery production produced by and for Chicago's third-string indy station, WSNS Channel 44, and presumably syndicated statewide. Most lottery game shows are simple affairs, enforcedly consisting of games of pure chance with virtually no skill or strategy allowed to enter into the proceedings. This is also the case here as far as "pure chance" goes, but "simple" left the building after the opening segment! Ostensibly a basketball-themed contest, it also involves the results of previously-run horse races for some unknown reason, tedious random-number draws for home players, and rules that even the host doesn't seem able to figure out himself. Adding to the mess, or the charm if you prefer, is the fact that since this show was produced at WSNS -- a channel notorious at the time for being where budgets go to die -- the production values are almost laughably primitive even by 1976 standards. But if you have a soft spot for the bygone days of homegrown television, or at least have an interest in lottery game shows, here's a little gem you probably didn't even know existed. I know I didn't, until I just stumbled across it a little while ago. Check it out here... Part 1Part 2Part 3Part 4The clips also feature original commercials.
