Wink's channel added a new rarity. A full episode of an unsold pilot called On a Roll. David Sparks hosted this, before Crosswits. Looks like it was for CBS based on the sound effects.

Huh. A hybrid of Wheel of Fortune and High Rollers.
Not a bad concept, and I can't even really criticize too much about the execution (well, maybe the use of the Doublemint Twins, which was fairly superfluous). I'm only left to wonder why this never sold; perhaps it was simply a case of not enough room on the schedule for it.

I know both carry a bit different kinds of excitement, but I think I like David Sparks more there than on Crosswits. This format seems like a better showcase for him to work with.

It might be worth him not getting that kind of cash to get massive hugs from those chicks.

See, I actually had the opposite reaction -- I thought he was a bit stiffer and less natural here than on Crosswits, more like he was reading a script than actually hosting a game. That assessment, however, comes with two rather large "buts": One, this was obviously a pilot and as such he very likely WAS reading a script; and two, this pilot predates his Crosswits run, so he rather naturally was at an earlier stage of his emcee development here.

Can we just agree that David Sparks was awful on both shows.

Yeah, I never thought he developed at all as an emcee.
As for the pilot, you lose a turn for doubles? Yeah Goodson was out of ideas by this point.
