I'd like your opinions on what constitutes a proper bitching when it comes to preempting. Back on Friday, when the Boston Marathon manhunt was going on, someone on LiveJournal posted about how he got pissed because the coverage preempted his beloved game shows, such as TPIR and Wheel of Fortune. I got pissed at him that night with a LiveJournal entry of my own. My question is - how far should game show fans take it when their shows get preempted? Should they resort to giving a network (such as CBS) the finger and telling them to not preempt TPIR for major news that's not really in their part of the country? Or the world? Opinions are very much welcome.

Everyone should have a life(Like me). I'm just afraid that the diehard game show fans base their life around the television. Unhealthy obsession.

Depends on the show, and how many people watch it.

Thanks to the cable package we have at home, if I miss a show in the morning I could always watch it later if I feel like it because we pick up west coast channels

As someone who follows some network daytime programming (I watch both Price is Right and Days of our Lives on a regular basis), I like to think there's an appropriate instance, not to be so bothered by this stuff to make a huge rant over it, but to at least get a bit irritated.
I get annoyed when there's an interruption at the wrong time. For example, the local CBS station a few years back cutting out of programming to update us on winter weather in Georgia when it hadn't even gotten near the state line yet. Or when the same affiliate decided to cut an hour out of the day to broadcast Tiger Woods' press conference post-cheating scandal. That could have waited until 5:00, IMO, especially since no other station here covered it. Or when any station interrupt a show simply to say that there's nothing new in a certain situation to report. I get irritated when the bulletins aren't substantial and feel like a waste of time and only then.
On the other hand, emergencies like the Boston bombings, severe weather (like a tornado outbreak in progress for example, in which live weather warnings have been proven to save lives in a situation like that).... with those things that are much more serious and crucial, I'll just suck it up and deal since they're naturally more important. Lives are at stake, people need to be kept up to date. I won't complain then.
The good thing though is that nowadays thanks to technology, you'll either be able to catch up on YouTube or the network sites.

Weather, most definitely. My CBS affiliate has said on numerous occasions that they have to stay on when there's a tornado warning in the state. (Haven't heard any of the other networks say that. Of course, I like my CBS news crew.)
Agreed with your last point. I don't get why people can't just watch the show online if they miss it.

Breaking news and news coverage takes priority over a game show. That's all I gotta say.
If I don't like the news coverage, I just switch to GSN. Done, deal.

Heres my take on it. If breaking news comes on and "takes over" your regularly scheduled programming, that's nothing to cry about. But when a show is purposely preempted, like during election season and NBA Finals, then it should be played later on after the game, or after local news.
I say that because my ABC station does that, they won't play Jeopardy/Wheel that ran on that day. Now that is annoying, I complained today mentioning that, it might or might not do good.

I have to bump up a thread that was made a little over five years ago, so that there's more people giving their opinions on this topic. No offense to S_SweepFan3, but I'm using his quote from tonight: What is so bad about not seeing the show that night? It'll be up on the internet eventually (or as part of a make-good in the summer, so the contestants get their prizes). I'm honestly not sure that game shows are 100% people's lives at this point.
