Apparently, this was the reason it was skipped. From Wink Martindale (John Ricci Jr.) on Facebook:
"This episode had a problem with Tom's mic on the first Gauntlet."
So did Buzzr think it wasn't of sufficient quality to air just because of that?

Could this mic problem be similar to the issue with episode 7 of Match Game 73 in that the audio was buzzy at one point?

There is no other version of episode 7 to compare that I know of but in the 1998 GSN rerun on the MG Productions channel, the first half of the episode is fine then it gets buzzy all of a sudden. No explanation as to why. There was a similar situation with how 5361D of TPIR was first presented on Barker Era with the audio being buzzy for a small portion of the episode (Bonus Game and the second showcase showdown) but that issue was fixed

So did Buzzr think it wasn't of sufficient quality to air just because of that? Depends on how bad the audio issue was with that segment and I'm guessing it was distracting enough to warrant skipping the entire episode. Considering it was during one of the Gauntlet rounds they probably couldn't edit around it. There is no other version of episode 7 to compare that I know of but in the 1998 GSN rerun on the MG Productions channel, the first half of the episode is fine then it gets buzzy all of a sudden. The issue with the Match Game episode is with the original 2" tape prior to the Digibeta conversion. Might have been an issue with the oxide on the tape shedding over time and it only affected the soundtrack portion at the end of the reel. Since the picture looked fine it wasn't caught until GSN aired the episode.
