Kind of sucks in a way. Whats the point in having an award show if it's a one time thing? Most last, such as MTV's awards. GSN is no MTV, but you know. It's possible that GSN probably thought it was worth trying but it might not have been as successful as they'd hoped, so they may not have thought it was worth repeating.

For some unknown reason I happened to keep Douglas Pucci's list of GSN ratings from June 1-6, 2009. 2009 Game Show Awards got 425K total viewers. Not bad but hardly a runaway success. The show ranked 28th for GSN that week. You'll never guess the top show for that week. Catch 21! It got 639K viewers for a 6:30 PM run. By the way, GSN averaged 377K/296K viewers prime time/total day for the week. Very good numbers by the network's historical standards. Since Game Show Awards barely performed better than the prime time average, I can see why GSN didn't try any more of them. Of course, It Takes a Church recently performed pretty much the same as the network's prime time average, and it got a renewal. But that show has an enthusiastic sponsor in Christian Mingle.

Plus, we can't forget that production values and budget was probably higher than most anything else they had done before then. It wouldn't be a surprise at all if the thing cost them more money than it did gained.

Off topic, but Meredith Viera's Millionaire did well on GSN. Just like I thought. So why did GSN treat it so bad? It got good numbers, just as I thought. That was one night, but still. The show started in November 2008 on GSN if I recall.
Look at how well the classics did too.

One caution: this might have been GSN's highest-rated week for 2009. It was certainly one of the network's best weeks of the year. So just about everything looked pretty decent. When Catch 21 does 600K+, you know it was a terrific week.
Interesting that Family Feud got eight of the top twenty slots, long before Steve Harvey arrived on the scene. Sure, it wasn't quite like some of the weeks this year when Harvey practically monopolized the top twenty. But the format has always had strong appeal on GSN.

I was actually surprised The Game Show Awards didn't do better, but this is a "small little genre". That beginning of the show was a bit weird, but all in all it was a great show. Hey, if GSN ever got the right to show the Daytime Emmys, that'd do well among the daytime housewives and game show fans. Haha, just kidding. I found this thread from 2009 from the old GSN Buzz Message boards, talking about the game show awards. That was pretty cool. vbarchive.gsn.com/buzz/showthread.php?t=102862&highlight=2009+Game+Show+Awards
