In 1985 Wink Martindale created and hosted Headline Chasers that tested contestants knowledge of popular news stories from the newspapers. And Wink got the idea for Headline Chasers when he and his wife Sandy were reading the newspaper headlines during breakfast time. I was reading about this show in my game show book and it inspired me to write about Headline Chasers, Did you ever watch this show?, Kelsey

I've only seen two episodes. I thought it was okay. I'm hoping someone someday posts a clean and clear version of the theme music Merv Griffin composed that was used on the actual program.

Headline Chasers... eh. Just another in a long series of cookie-cutter syndie game shows that sprouted up in the wake of Wheel of Fortune's breakout mid-'80s success, as everyone suddenly tried to capture lightning in a bottle. While history will record it as the moment Wink Martindale ceased being just a "host" and formally added "producer/developer" to his résumé, looking back on it today you can't help but be struck by the fact that Wink left Tic Tac Dough for this project. Hindsight is 20/20 after all, but even at the time it didn't seem like quite a smart move; although Wink Martindale Enterprises did eventually develop some well-regarded fare, its maiden effort in Headline Chasers was, far from being a home run, more of a single blooped up the first-base line. Not even the marketing muscle of Merv Griffin and King World behind it could save this rather pedestrian show from also-ran status.
Nothing terrible, but nothing spectacular either, just sort of there and easily lost in the shuffle of more bombastic contemporary syndie fare (besides Wheel, there was The $100,000 Pyramid, The $1,000,000 Chance of a Lifetime, and even Break the Bank á là Kline, among others).

Somehow, it reminded me a bit of Canada's "Headline Hunters" which was in the 70's and early 80's hosted by Jim Perry.
Yes, I meant SotC's Jim Perry.
